caribbean2000 Posted May 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2008 On the recommendation of Aplmac, we headed for Mullins off the Crown Princess a couple weeks ago. I'm happy to say it was just what we were looking for, as per Aplmac's description - a very pretty beach with snorkeling at either end, plus a beach bar/restaurant and loungers with umbrellas to rent. There were a few locals on the beach pushing jet ski rides, the usual beads and trinkets, and a couple boats came in offering snorkeling with turtles trips to nearby places but overall the vendors were not all that pushy compared to other beaches we've visited. Re: turtles - we saw plenty of them on the reef to the right so unless you want to go on one of the trips offered my guess is you can spot some on your own. The snorkeling overall was quite good although the coral was in pretty bad shape. Lots of marine life otherwise. The loungers on the beach cost $10 each for the day, with a large umbrella and a small table. The restaurant/bar was very good but it's more of a high end spot than a funky beach bar. Very nicely decorated and an interesting menu but lunch and two drinks cost about $60 with tip - and we'd didn't order anything particularly fancy. It was very good food and service though. Just don't go there looking for $5 flying fish sandwiches and $1 beers! Overall it was a very nice, relaxing day on a beautiful beach - highly recommended if that's what you're looking for on Barbados for a day. Thanks Aplmac! Aplmac Posted May 11, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2008 Glad to hear it turned out nice for ya. Yes...all that upper West Coast area is now "up-market,dahhling" - we locals refer to it as The Platinum Coast (further South it's merely The Gold Coast) Everything's pricey North of Holetown, but it gets worse than those Mullins prices... just go to Lone Star Garage
