mconthehighseas Posted May 25, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 25, 2008 Are any of the river cruises affected? When I looked it seemed like Chongqing is where some of the cruises start. That city looks like it was really affected by the earthquake. I do not know of any affects to cruises yet, but the Water Minstry reported "69 dams are in danger of bursting in Sichuan province" per CNN. I ran to get the map of China that just came with this month's National Geographic to see what's what. Chongqing is in the Chongqing province, which borders Sichuan on the southeast. The Yangtze cruise then moves into Hubei province which is where the 3 Gorges dams are and where the cruises tend to end in Wuhan. So far, Viking only has a warning on their website that they will be monitoring the situation in Tibet, and will make accommodations for people who had planned to go there should the need arise. While it doesn't look like the cruises are affected, I would check with my TA and/or Viking if I had a China cruis booked.
