:p While I'm sry about the sick passenger, I'm kinda getting excited about our cruise in November. We are doing the 11 day to Fanning Island and I was worried about what in the world do you do 2 days at sea? Good information! Thanks! :D

well, first let me say that I work onboard the WIND and I have been on here for many months. I'll give you some info on what really happened last cruise. First, on our way to Fanning Island a person became very ill from a previous condition that took a turn for the worse. Of course I can't say what exactly this person had, but it was something not communicable. Anyway, this person was in a life or death situation and was too weak to be airlifted off the ship, as airlifting somebody off a ship is a very stressful and scary experience for both the ship and the victim. We ended up turning around and dropping the person off in Kona by tender. Then we did a sea day around the north side of Molokai(could be Molokini, i get them confused) which was absolutely gorgeous with the rugged landscape and waterfalls, not to mention that no one else gets to do this. Then the next day we docked in Nawiliwili again. Early that morning a person died in their sleep. Nothing could be done except to take the person off the ship and try to help the family with the situation. Then we went to Hilo where early in the morning another medical emergency happened requiring another person to be taken off the ship. Later during the day at Hilo Hatties a passenger was over heard saying to the cash register woman, that a person died so the ship had to turn around and there is a morgue onboard so she didn't see why she had to give up fanning island which was the whole reason she took the cruise.

Well, actually we turned around because a person was dying but that person made it off alive. The person that died did so on the second sea day which means that if we went to Fanning Island the dead person and their family would have had to spend the day at Fanning Island and two more sea days before anything could be done for them. What kind of horribly selfish person says these kinds of things.

As we were leaving Hilo a line got caught around the prop and it made us 4hrs late for Kona. Usually, we are in Kona from about 8-5pm, this time we were there from about 12-9pm which is roughly the same time but nobody seemed to be able to understand this and they complained how short their day in Kona was, when it was the same as every other cruise. After kona we did an overnight in Honolulu, which nobody seemed to like.

Now let me give you some insie info here. Most people that take the hawaiian cruise don't seem to like fanning island. Some people even went so far as to say that NCL made up the whole medical emergency so that they didnt have to go to fanning island. Don't they think that there are mounds of paper work and forms that NCL will have to filll out because they didn't go there. One person even came up with this homemade fact saying that we dont go there over half the time. I have been onboard since the beginning of the Hawaiian season and this was the first time we didn't visit Fanning. The comment cards are filled with people saying how 4 days at sea are a waste for such a bad port. they would rather stay in the hawaiian islands. About half the people don't understand why we have to go to fanning island or why there is no casino onboard. They come onboard expecting a casino cause thats what their travel agent told them and then it is the cruise lines fault when they see that it isnt onboard. They also complain constantly about how much the ship moves and if it really has stabilizers or not. Yes, we have stabilizers, but here is a fact, we are in the middle of the pacific ocean for 5 days!! there is absolutely no land around at all to block or buffer the waves. Of course the ship is going to move around. I was onboard the SAGA ROSE all of 2003 and being only 25,00tons we moved around a lot!!!!! Plus, during our world cruise which was 104 days long we only had 33 ports so that is roughly 3-4 days at sea for each one. Sea days are meant to be relaxing but most people want to shop or do things so cruise lines don't offer them. I am really shocked at what people can complain about or make themselves believe sometimes but I guess to each his own. Just make sure that you know what you're talking about before you write it on a comment card or on a review. Thanks.

It surely is nice that you took the time to let us know the "real" story. People say things and one never really does know the truth. Nancy

It always amazes me how much credibility people put in information posted on the Internet by unknow sources. I heard from a friend who taked to his brother who was on the cruise and said one of the crew told them........ :D

As inaccurate some imformation turns out most of the time posters believe it is the truth when they post it. The turth has become harder to find anywhere. You can't even believe once credible news sources anymore.

After we turned around on our first sea day which was Thurs. we dropped off the emergency in Kona around 2 a.m. The rest of Friday was spent cruising the islands which was kinda neat since we went all around Molokai which is not normally on the schedule. The next day we returned to Kauai which happened to be one of our favorites so that worked for us. We had taken the Jack Harter Helicopter tour when we were there on Wed. so just enjoyed the day with a relative that works at the Kauai Marriott (walking distance from the dock.) Then we went back to Hilo for a second visit. We chose to do a walking tour through the beautiful Lili'ukalani Gardens. It was very hot that day so we couldn't stay too long on the road. We were to sail that night @ 6 p.m for Kona but preparing to sail proved fateful to one or more of the stern lines which ran afoul of the prop shaft and we did not get away until (around) 4 a.m. They had to bring in divers to cut them out. #2 disappointment (after not getting to see Fanning Island) the Captain was going to take us around the south of the Big Island so we could see the volcano at night. Of course, that didn't happen. Then we got into Kona later than planned so most tours (which had all been rescheduled because we were arriving a day early) were all messed up and the staff were working like mad to make things happen. There was a Celebrity ship anchored as well so the tendering was pretty confusing and took a lot longer than expected. Then we sailed to Honolulu a day early for an overnight stay there. A lot of folks enjoyed this because they were due to fly home right away. We had a 3 day post cruise so we spent most of the extra time getting packed and prepared for that. Maybe some day we'll get to Fanning. I see on the bridge cam that the cruise after ours is there today so the school supplies and the soccer balls we brought for the kids will be delivered by the ship's personnel.

They were very thankful and assured us all would be delivered on arrival. :D
