Considering a cruise on the Holiday...
I was just trying to understand why people would choose to settle with the Holiday when there are many many more options out there.
You answered my question. Which would be because it is dirt cheap.
That's understandable. ;)
I'm not rich by no means, so I won't say cost does not factor into to our cruise decisions. That being said, I don't consider myself choosing to "settle" for the Holiday, I am choosing to "experience" the Holiday. I do prefer the smaller ships. I'll probably be in for a shock on the next two cruises, we are going from the newest and largest, to the oldest and smallest within a lil over a month apart, lol. After my experience on a Conquest class, I would take a Fantasy class everytime if they offered 7 day sailings.

I just have to jump in with why i choose to cruise again on the holiday.

1. Mobile Port. Easy drive from Tn, not just distance but the roads, port parking, everything is a breeze.

2. Ports of call. We loved the opportunity to see the Mayan Ruins, and Cozumel has tons and tons to do.

3. Smaller ship. Big ships are fine, and I like them too, but honestly I like the cozy feeling on smaller ships. I liked seeing the same passengers over and over, and making new friends. I liked my "kids" running into me so many times while I was sunning on deck.

4. Food. Weve sailed both Disney and RCCL, and so far we liked the carnival food the best. So far we've not ordered anything to eat that we havnet enjoyed. Oh...and the Pizza...son loved the pizza buffet.

5. Staff. We've always enjoyed good wait and cabin staff on our cruises, but my son actually made friends with some of the guys working on Holiday, they are still e-mailing back and forth.

6. Patrons. Okay I may sound terrible now, but I really enjoyed all the southern hospitality on the ship, both from the staff and the passengers. Just like when my kids were younger I enjoyed being with the families of kids on Disney, we had alot in common, I find myself having alot in common with my fellow passengers on Holiday. Probably 80 percent were from TN, Ga, AL and Ms... (Of course I understand the southerners may be a detriment to some...lol but we liked it) When I'm older I may find I enjoy more sedate fancier ships.

7. And of course the VALUE. We can sail on Holiday for about 400pp for a 5 day cruise. I can't hardly FEED my son's on vacation for 80 dollars a day! (At least not steak, seafood, lobster and all you can eat pizza ice cream). So for the cost of food alone, we enjoy comedians, musical shows, piano bars, pools, hot tubs, gym, great scenery, great ports of call.

HOWEVER...with all this said....I DO see the problems with HOILDAY. We saw rust, worn carpet, small pools, no atrium (and I do love the atriums), no balconies, small hallways, etc.... We have invited friends to sail with us next time, and I'm lisitng all the things wrong with Holiday, as well as all the things right. I don't want them dissappointed, and it's better to be informed.
I know it is not all inclusive I was being sarcastic;)
Best thing about a cruise is that it CAN be all inclusive.

I had my 19 year old son on my sail and sign card...he knew he had permission to pretty much get whatever he wanted. (He's a sensible kid, I never really worry about him overspending, so didn't give him limits.) At the end of the 5 days I checked our account, and He had charged... 0.00.
He doesnt drink soda, isnt into souvineres usually, spent a small amount of his own cash in the casino,...so for him the trip on ship really was all inclusive.

I'd just like to know from you or Ala-kat...what the heck's wrong with Spanish Fort? It's a very nice town with equally nice people. You guys should be so lucky to live here! ;)

Spanish Fort is a great place...nothing against Spanish Fort at all. It was kind of an inside joke between Ala-Kat & I but I see the cat is out of the bag now.:)

Besides I know you would not be my ex. The handle Cookingchick gives it away. Unless I wanted to starve I had to do the cooking.:D
Cool aid drinkers are people who can't see past their blind loyalty of a person, item or thought and see that there are issues. Sorry for the late response been busy.
The term is often applied to supporters of Phillip Fulmer here in the Vol state.

I don't think most folks will ever understand, because they probably don't understand hippies who will drive an ancient VW bus when they can afford a 'Vette. We're just weird, dude.
Actually, my two favorite ships are Holiday and Navigator of the Seas, so I guess that makes me an extremist.
Anyway, if we all liked the same things the lines would be even longer. I don't think anybody wants that. Oops! I fell into my own trap.:o Some people probably love long lines because it gives them extended bonding time with new acquaintances.
