She like things like name that tune, do they have this. What other activities could we do. as there is sea days. What about culinary things and also do they have hight tea. Dutch high tea. etc. Thanks
RuthC Posted May 23, 2008 #2 Share Posted May 23, 2008 There should be Name That Tune at least one night in the Piano Bar. During the day there will be Trivia, and possibly some other similar group games. There might be some physical activities like golf putting. High tea isn't generally held on a ship, as that's a full meal. Low tea is held daily---and it's very lovely. Yummy, in fact! :D There should be one Royal Dutch Tea, and there may be an Indonesian Tea. Yes, there are things for an 89 year old to do. Frankly, in Alaska just watching the passing scenery can be a full-time job.
takemewithyou Posted May 23, 2008 #3 Share Posted May 23, 2008 I think there was Name that tune every night - maybe not starting until 9 or 10 pm, though. I wanted to go, but it never fit my schedule. There were Trivia contests some of the time. Not sure - didn't think there were that many activities until after 9 or 10 at night. I didn't answer before because I don't have that much to contribute. Sorry! Maybe others will have the answers.
takemewithyou Posted May 23, 2008 #4 Share Posted May 23, 2008 I think there was Dutch high tea held - maybe on day #2 - a day at sea. I have yet to attend one! :o
orangearmy Posted May 23, 2008 #5 Share Posted May 23, 2008 The Westerdam should drop a schedule of the planned activities every day. It should be in your stateroom the evening before so you can plan your day. I am looking at one right now from our Carribean cruise last February. There were daily activities such Trivia, Culinary Presentations, Bingo, Bridge & card games. On a sea day, there are at times to much to do and not enough time to make it to everything. Also on our cruise there was a Dutch High tea as well as an Indoneasian tea. Also a Backstage tour was a highlight as was the kitchen tour. Again check your "Daily Program" newsletter and you should find lots to do. Have a great time on your cruise.
cruisepal48 Posted May 23, 2008 Author #6 Share Posted May 23, 2008 Thanks you guys. She especially asked about name that tune. She loves music. I'm sure we'll hit the trivia games. I'm not sure as to what time she;ll want to go to bed but I'm sure it won't be late. We're bringing a Wheel Chair to drive her around as her knees are shot and walking too much will be too hard on her. She gets around OK just old Arthritis doesn't. Thanks again
InTheWASide Posted May 23, 2008 #7 Share Posted May 23, 2008 I'm on the same cruise and CAN'T WAIT!!!!! From being on the Westerdam once before I can tell you that if she loves tmusic, the Piano Bar is going to be great. AMong other things is one of Dizzy Gillespie's either trumpet or flugelhorn (I forget which) in a case to the left of the piano and lots of GREAT art work. Piano Bar is just off the Casino. The colors are eyecatching too. I promise it's easy to find! Black and white enlarged photos of the phenoms of jazz are also all throughout this room. They also play a fair amount of ballroom and latin styles in the Ocean Bar (the band plays on the port side) and there's a dance floor if she's still very active. Otherwise, it's a great place to see the activity in the atrium, the dancers, listen to some great music and see the spectacular Waterford creation of the Half Moon close-up! You'll find classical music each evening in the Explorer's Lounge and some treats before and/or after dinner. The Crow's Nest up top will have a DJ and I've usually seen sort of a "Dancin' through the decades" type of program going on. Otherwise, there might be some live music. The Northern Lights is the the modern "younger" nightclub/bar on board. The music is more modern. Great dance floor and lots of booths and tables surrounding it. Hope this helps and is keeping all of you excited. We're bursting at the seams here. WHY couldn't we have picked THIS Sunday instead?!?! WHY?!?
Krazy Kruizers Posted May 23, 2008 #8 Share Posted May 23, 2008 The Piano Bar didn't open until around 9:30 each night. Some nights Name that tune was around 9:45. Some nights around 8:15 in the Northern Lights Disco. The cooking demonstrations were at 11:30 AM.

You're in for a treat in the Piano Bar on the Westerdam! Jimmy Maddox is there right now and he's the best piano bar entertainer we've ever experienced. He is extremely talented and has great interaction with the crowd (and I do mean crowd--he keeps the place packed). He's just a truly nice guy. We missed many early morning walks around the ship on our Feb cruise because we were in the piano bar with Jimmy until the wee hours. Please request "Margaritaville" and "Hang on Sloopy" and tell Jimmy it's from his fan club:D Have a GREAT time--I'm envious! Des
