The steward over road the lock and the privacy tag was in the slot while I was in the shower. Another time while I was on the balcony reading. Just one of many problems on the CB. And to the OP's point, nobody in management thought this was an issue!
Perhaps you need to keep your TV turned down to avoid complaints from your neighbors......be considerate of others.

Look, everyone who travels has had a similar occurance in a hotel or on a ship. Quit fretting. It's not serious...no big deal....petty stuff. Good grief!
This sounds a little more suspicious to me than a steward walking in without knocking. Its strange to me that the reason he gave to you for walking in was different than the reason he gave to the front desk. (It's also strange that he would walk in to check on passengers who were too loud--he would be able to tell from outside the door if it was noisy and could knock to ask you to keep the noise down if he thought it was possibly noisy before he got there.)

I also wonder about the cruise line's reaction. Saying they took care of it could mean that they just told the crew member not to do it again or that they had had complaints about him in the past. Also, it does not sound like it was your steward (you called him a crew member). I wonder if this particular crew member was under suspicion for theft (it happens, although not frequently) and that was the real reason he was there--he thought the cabin was empty. The cruise line could have let him go and would not explain that to you (for privacy reasons and to avoid any admission that there was a problem crewman on the staff).

Of course, maybe I'm being paranoid, but that was my first thought when you described the situation and the cruise line's reaction.
Oh, Jeez.......c'mon.....

I would be a bit suspicious of this situation as well. It is nice to give people the benefit of the doubt, but it is also naive to think that crime does not occur simply because you are at sea. We had sometihing stolen from our cabin a few years ago while on another cruiseline. The Head of Security on the ship told us that, unfortunately, things like that do happen more often than one would think. In no way do I blame that cruiseline. I realize that the incident could have happened anywhere - on land or at sea.

By the way, we just got off our first Princess cruise (Sapphire - Alaska) a week ago, and absolutely LOVED it!

Just off of Coral one week ago. We didn't have a steward or crew member walk-in but we did have another guest walk-in. Our door as well as that of my parents and sister (and I would assume others) seemed to be warped or racked such that when closed the bottom of the door contacted the door frame and the top lacked about 3/8" so if we didn't push the door closed or pull the door closed until we heard the door lock...it wouldn't lock. Guy two doors down came into our room one day while we were watching a movie...he apologized and was extremly embarassed. Made us double check our door every time we cane and went.

Slightly off topic, but we experienced a chronic, nasty problem with a non-functioning toilet on a recent 15-day cruise trans-Atlantic cruise on the Crown. It was evident almost immediately and we reported it right away to the steward. He contacted the shipboard plumber and we thought it had been fixed. Unfortunately it remained unresolved the entire cruise (and caused a pretty constant parade of people traipsing into our room) - and yes, we reported it to the concierge desk and wrote it up in our end-of-cruise questionaire. Nobody has contacted us - we ended the cruise on May 20, how long before we should contact them again and is it even worth it? Incidentally, we heard of other pax having the same problems with their johns so ours was apparently not a unique problem.

It IS a big deal if you are in the middle of having "relations" with your mate.
Take a door-stopper with you. For those occasions when you need to be confident you will not be interrupted, wedge it under the door. Because cabin doors open inwards, the door cannot be opened until the door-stopper is removed.:)
Good idea about the door stopper! Not for all the time. Just When you REALLY need privacy! Once we were on the balcony , getting frisky and when we came in later we noticed Appetizers were on the table in or room from the butler. :(
I am not a porn star and don't ever want an audience when I am with my HUSBAND! I was really upset. I can only hope he didn't even notice us out there. I wonder when the steward uses his card if he/she knows he is overiding the deadbolt? If it is on, there has to be someone in there. Also , how do they know someone isn't taking a nap? I think if the do not disturb card is on the door they should always call the room first before entering. Period.
They were washing the balconies on our 5/26 cruise, and Princess was nice enough to leave us a card telling us to be aware that we may see someone on our balcony doing this cleaning. I thought it was very considerate as otherwise I'm sure it would've given us quite a fright to see them!
We were recently on a Princess Alaska cruise and received a similar card. The card informed us that if we objected to having the service done we could contact passenger services and they would work around us. We also thought this was a good way for Princess to handle this.
I have had staff walk in my room unannounced in some of the better hotels too. :)

On the ship I always put out the privacy tag, that helps alot.
I have never had this happen on any of my Princess cruises, thankfully. In hotels, this has happened many times! I hear a quick rap on the door followed by an immediate opening of the door. That is why I leave the inside lock/chain on when I am in the room.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise.

We use the "Do not disturb" sign whenever we are in the cabin. We have only ever have one intrussion. It was 3-4 years ago on disembarkment day. We went for a quick breakfast and left the DND sign out as our stuff was spread out getting ready to vacate. When we returned about 15 minutes later, the room had been entered -- the steward wanted to get a jump-start and had come in to change the bed sheets for the next PAX. Yet we were still "occupying" the cabin. We were not planning to exit for about 60 minutes more. He knocked twice more, about 15 minutes apart -- both times we said we were not done yet. They had not called the first color yet at that time. He finally used his key and came in anyway. Very unprofessional. But that is the only time was had any problem with unwanted entrance into our cabin.

We did set-off the "steam" alarm last month and got a phone call ....
