Anyone change ships after making reservation?

Recommended Posts

Is there any penalty to change your reservation or is it just a pain for your travel agent? I keep second guessing myself. I booked the Jewel for April 2005, but now I'm wondering if the kids will enjoy it as much as the Voyager class.

IT depends on the agent.

I use one that does not. I have changed my mind 3 times!

The cruise line does not, if you are outside of any penalty time. I used one on line agent that charged me $35.00 and I wont use them again. Some do and some dont. Its not that big of a pain for an agent to keep you as a customer. Dont feel bad for changing your mind. Your deposit is made, they just keep it, and change the booking.

It really depends on your agent and which cruise line you are switching from. I did this a few years ago when I switched from the Monarch of the Seas to the Carnival Destiny and they charged me a new deposit but then RCCL refunded my deposit shortly afterwards. So I basically had two deposits out but eventually got one back. My TA handled it all.

I've made the switch between ships on the same cruise line and had no problems as long as it was before the final payment.

My travel agent handled the whole thing and it was seamless to me. I just had to go to Vancouver instead of Rome

Go ahead if you feel that you've made the wrong choice.

I agree with the above posters that it depends on your agent. I use one that doesn't charge for changes as long as it is before the final payment is due. I changed cruise lines, then changed the number of people cruising, then changed dates, then changed ships before final payment on my upcoming Brilliance cruise !!! I think I drove my TA crazy. But, she did it all with a smile and said that making us happy cruisers was what would bring us back. Good lucK!!!!!

Thanks everyone. I was thinking of switching to the Mariner, eastern route. We did the western route last year and had bad weather. I guess I'm alittle shy about going back. My husband thinks I should just stay with the Jewel, plus the Mariner will be about $500 more dollars.

I think I will ask my TA anyway and see what she says. After all , she only has to make a few phone calls right?

Before final payment, you can switch, no new deposit should be required, your TA can transfer your deposit, just make sure to keep the same booking number. If you have on board booking crdit, that transfers also.

We changed from Enchantment of the Seas to Navigator of the Seas prior to our final payment and we were not charged a fee to change. We did have to pay a large deposit on the voyager class ship.

We switched ships last year well before the cancellation period with no fees or additional deposit. We were doing Alaska and changed from one way on the Legend to round trip on the Radiance. We ended up falling in love with the Radiance and are sailing her again in November in a HUMP cabin! I get giddy every time I think about it

Anyway, go with your gut. If you go into it thinking you made a mistake, it may impact your enjoyment. I will say, though, that my kids loved the Radiance class, so I can't imagine you not loving the Jewel!

Thanks Chris. I was concerned with the size of the pool. I know there is a kid's pool, but my kids ages are between 6 and 15. I read that it was a teen pool and someone else said it was for younger kids only. What was it like on your cruise? I know Jewel will be a beautiful ship and it was my first choice, so maybe I should just stick with it. Also, where can you get snacks? The Explorer had the Cafe Promande and sprinkles ice cream. Do you think Jewel will have anything like that?

Thanks for the invite! We have cruised Explorer twice and are looking to try something new. Explorer is a beautiful ship and a lot of fun, your kids will love it. My 6 year old cried every night for a week because he missed the cruise so much.

The week of April 17 is our kids spring vacation. The prices are a lot better than February vacation. I'm looking forward to cruising in April, if I could just make up my mind on a ship!

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, amc40. I was waiting for my teenager to give me some answers. I can tell you he pretty much eats round the clock, and at different times of the day ate in the Windjammer, got pizza in the Soarium, and went up to the Sea View Cafe for chicken wings and sandwiches. I think ice cream was served in the Windjammer. He even used room service.

As far as the pools go, we were in Alaska so didn't pay much attention. The one time my 11yo swam in the oudoor pool he had it all to himself.

We really loved the ship, but haven't done the Voyager class yet, so can't fairly compare. Good luck with your decision!
