HighFlyer Posted October 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2004 I will be on the 11/28 Oosterdam sailing, and I'm wondering if it's possible to switch to the late dinner seating on the day which the shore excursion goes past the early seating (which we are booked on). Esme Posted October 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Last year in Alaska a couple were late getting back from their excursion (they had early seating), so they went to the Maitre'd, explained their situation and he seated them at our table as we had a few empty seats. I am sure it will be no problem if you speak the the Maitre'd.
WindyCity Posted October 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Another alternative is ordering room service off the dining room menu. That way, if you are too tired and don't want to dress - it's a "rejuvenation" time. Or, you can opt to eat in the Lido.
Host Walt Posted October 11, 2004 #4 Share Posted October 11, 2004 You need to let the Maitre d' know the day before so that he can keep you in mind and be ready when you show up. In other words don't just show up 1/2 hour late and expect to be seated. In most situations, if the Maitre d' knows in advance that you'll be late, you'll be greeted and served very efficiently without a hitch. (It happens all the time on early seatings and late shore excursions.)
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted October 11, 2004 Usually you have to order room service within 1/2 hour of when the main dining room opens. So that won't be an option if you get back from your tour late. Definitely tell the maitre'd the evening before that you will miss your early dining time because of a late excursion. He'll be able to seat you at the later dining time.
RuthC Posted October 11, 2004 #6 Share Posted October 11, 2004 The maitre d' keeps tab on those who won't be there due to reservations in the Pinnacle. He will know which seats are vacant. It's even possible to be accommodated at a later sitting once in a while for other extraordinary reasons.
localady Posted October 12, 2004 #7 Share Posted October 12, 2004 When we know we are going to have a late excursion, we will book at the Pinnacle that night. It allows you to get back, shower etc. and then have a lovely later dinner. After walking and all the exercise of the excursion we can justify the splurge!
