Advice on Aft Cabins

We were in 6093 on Nautica. Loved it! Huge balcony (3 to 4 times as big as standard balcony). Wonderful to see out over the wake. These are generally coveted staterooms that go very quickly.

Something to consider: There is more vibration aft when the ship is underway. It didn't bother us, but the people in the owner's suite next to us didn't care for it. Sometimes there would be some black soot on the chairs and railing, I assume from the stacks. Easily cleaned away with a tissue or two. These are not issues that would keep us from booking this stateroom again in a heartbeat.

Would appreciate advice on Cabin 6093 or similar.

Kruiserkat-

Our Aunt was in 6090 last year, and while she LOVED having the aft

views and the quiet location (it's a fairly solitary area of the ship), she thought that the walk to the elevators was too long (It's maybe 180 feet).

We were in the room next door, and while our verandah remained pristine, hers did get some black soot occasionally. Especially when the wind was blowing in the same direction as the ship was sailing.

Her cabin steward took to stopping in just before cocktail time, every evening, to wipe everything down, as he knew that she habitually used the verandah before dinner. After that, even white pants were safe!

She did have one odd problem, perhaps worth mentioning, there are service pantries located opposite 6090 and 6093. During the first few days of our cruise, the pantry doors were always ajar, and there were several mops with buckets and linen carts blocking that hallway.

We juggled our way around them for two or three days before contacting the housekeeping supervisor....after that, everything was always perfect!

If it happens to you, say something right away!

We haven't been in the aft cabins on deck 6 but were in 7116 on the Nautica our last cruise and are in 8066 on the Regatta for our next cruise. We like the deeper veranda and it was great having an adult beverage back there on sail aways. All of us in the aft cabins got to know each other pretty well. We never really experienced the black soot issue, but I can see how it could happen. We did feel a little more vibration in the back, usually when docking or leaving a dock, it was not a big issue for us.

KruiserKat -

Cruised in 6090 and 6093 on Regatta and Azamara Quest. JoePDX is right, though: at 18kn or faster there is considerable vibration. To us it's a reminder that we are actually at sea, and we do not mind it at all. Have not had any soot on either one of the ships. Maybe it's because we are usually steaming across the Atlantic and the soot is blown away? We had no problem with the doors to the maintenance closets being open. However, at times the attendants seem to park their service carts opposite our door. We do like the location aft. A short stroll to the staircase or elevator at night, up three decks, and you are in the buffet at the coffee machine (and cookie tray).

We were in 6090 last summer. We liked the large balcony -- great for watching the wake of the ship as we sailed from port to port. In a few ports, another ship docked directly behind us so no view, but that comes with the territory sometimes when you're in an aft cabin.

We did not notice any soot or vibration issues. I'm not sure why not, based on some of the other posts. Maybe just luck.

The cabin stewards did have a habit of parking their carts in the hallway right outside the doors to 6090 or 6093. Not a big deal, but a little unsightly. When I say "park" I mean for for hours at a time, long after the rooms are cleaned, even overnight sometimes.
