I live in Copenhagen - can give advice

@ paul8

Well i can´t seem to find the confusing part in the second link but you can also purchase it at the train ticket counter at the airport.

@ wantocruisemore

Some places are more safer than others but generally its pretty safe in Copenhagen.

Something that you have to consider is that the legal age to go to clubs and bars is 18 years so there will be some temptations :D

@ Munch123

You can store your luggage at the central station and tour the central part of Copenhagen or go to Tivoli that is located next to the central station.

Hello! We are American "ex-pats" who are currently living in Copenhagen.

LOTS of great ships come through here - and I'm more than happy to give advice on "what to see and do".

We have two children, ages 4 and 6 (currently) - so are very well versed in "what do to with kids".

The great thing about CPH is that it is a VERY (and I mean VERY) clean, safe, and EASY city to explore.

This is a "not to miss" city on your plans --

Enjoy!

I have been to CPN, Stk before, but we will do a landcation next fall, and re-visit CPN a few days b4 our tour begins, and some after in STK to see the complete VASA...it was 1972 when it was barely 1/3 done. AMBER is always on my list, so on to the No. Baltic states to eliviate them of some!

I have gained much more knowledge than offered in books from these readings, and have my own dossier book started of maps, places and things. I'm only just 1/3 of the way thru the older posts ! Thanx for your posting for everyone. and DANISH VIKING !

Danish viking...a question, please.

On an earlier thread, I quoted a line I had read :

"...All taxi prices are included VAT - Service and Tips."

As we get closer to our stay in CPH, I am seeing that we will be taking more than a few cab rides.

Is that actually true...that the fare will include the tip?

Thanks.

Thanks so much for all the information, it is truly overwhelming!

We are coming in September 7, in the AM, staying at Clarion Hotel 27, for 4 days, sailing out on the Emerald Princess September 11. What kind of adapters do I need to charge my batteries, cell phone, camera, etc. at the hotel

Our Baltic Sea trip is in just over a week and I have no plans in place and no time!

Copenhagen -- Theoretically the Rotterdam is docking at Langelinie. My two goals are to see are the Amalienborg Palace and Rosenborg Castle. I understand the Stroget businesses will be closed as it is a Sunday. But my main concern is getting to and from the port to that general area.

I had read the 26 bus did that and it was a short trip, but when I went to this site called "Rejseplanen" and it had me using three different transportation systems and taking 2 hours.

Which -- if either -- is valid?

Unless things have changed, bus 26 does not go to the pier on Sundays. There is a train a short walk from the pier, but you can not use US currency to purchase a ticket. If arriving on Sunday, be sure to change some money ahead. You will find taxis at the pier. If time and walking aren't issues, Langelinie is not far from Amalienborg Palace. It is a nice walk along Langelinie Promenade with interesting sights along the way. You can then continue your walk to Rosenborg Castle and park area. Return by way of the Citadel. The grounds are beautiful, lovely views, and open to the public.

Copenhagen is best seen and experienced on foot. Get a free tourist map from the visitors center or from the internet. Enjoy!

We are 6 people. Do they have taxi's for 6 people. If we want to go from the pier to where the changing of the guard is, do you have any idea what it would cost. Also if not what is the cheapest and easiest way to get there.

thanks again for all the advice & expertise.

i have used the search button on this site & have googled, but i can't seem to find out how much a ticket for the bus/train per zone cost, or is it a hrly cost.

what i have found is: 1 hr = 24ddk ? zones??

10trip=140dkk ? zones

harbor bus=24dkk

freedom ticket 2 days= 220dkk not sure what this is unlimited transportation for 2days without the free admission the cop.card offers?

copenhagen card = $86.86 on viator

we rented an apartment close to the bella center /orestad area

the address is Edvard Thomsen vej 5a zip code 2300

we will take a taxie from the airport since we will have a wheelchair plus luggage.

daily we will be going into downtown copenhagen to site see.

the cop.card would breakdown to 144.7/ddk will we be spending that much on bas/metro?

i.e. since we are out in orrestad will the 10 trip be used up in 1 day? or will we need more/less? i'm sooo confused lol

10 trip = 140= $28

cop card= 86.86 /3days=$28.6/d

1hr=24dkk=$4.80

There are many options here (as you are discovering). We just got back from 5 days pre-cruise and 2 days post-cruise. I'll share what we figured out.

Let's start with your basic trip from Orestad to central Copenhagen (which could be to the central station via train, or to the Kongens Nytorv area via Metro). That is a 2-zone journey.

Option #1: Single-ticket -- Each person purchases a 24 DKK trip that covers any travel within those 2 zones for 1 hour.

Option #2: A 10-trip 2-zone clipcard. The card can be clipped (validated) for each person traveling (not sure about kids since we didn't have any with us). So if 2 people are sharing the card, then clip it twice to get to your destination and twice to get home. We actually carried 2-zone and 3-zone clipcards because we did several 3-zone trips.

Option #3: 24-hour pass (train/Metro/bus) for 1 person. Each person has to have their own. Most useful for longer trips.

Option #4: The Freedom Pass -- This applies to the HOHO buses, waterbuses and canal tours.

Option #5: The Copenhagen Card. When I did the math based on our interests, we would not get our money's worth from the Copenhagen card. This was based completely on the cost of the things we planned to do.

I also found that the 7-11 shops were so helpful in getting me the best deal on a ticket. One of our trips was a 5-zone trip. The clerk explained that our best deal was a 2-zone clipcard. On the way out, I validated the card 5 times (5 zones * 2 people = 10 zones). On the way back, I validated it 5 more times to get both of us home.

It is called a klippekort (clipcard) because each validate clips off the bottom-right edge of the ticket.

Danish Viking, I have a few planning questions for our trip next summer. We are arriving early in the morning on June 23rd (Mid Summer Eve) and leave on the Eurodam the following Sunday (the 24th). Most of our touring will need to take place on the 23rd. Will most tourist attractions and shops be open on the 23rd or is Mid Summer Eve a holiday where the city shuts down. Also, I noticed this year that for the most part the bonfires and celebrations started late in the evening. Are these celebrations something we should put on our list of activities (of course after flying all night, this will require a nap before hand). Thanks for your help.

When i seach i only find one direct bus to Rosenborg.

The bus also goes in weekends but for some reason you have to walk down to the bottom of the pier to Indiakaj (the street that lead up to Langelinie)

@ nannylynn

I need to know what pier you gonna be at.

@ evgal/nj

You already have some good information but i would add some more.

The city pass will give you unlimited transportation in in Copenhagen and Amager (airport and Ørestad) for only 70 DKK for 24 hours and 180 DKK for 72 hours.

@ swin26

Sankt Hans as it is called in Denmark is on the 24th so you will miss out this time.

posted on the other thread...

but was wondering about the kilppekort...

We are going from airport to cruiseport, and upon return from our cruise, we will be going from cruiseport to central station for one night, and then central station to airport.

For 4 adults... which klippekort would be the best value?

Thanks!

A kid question...

The hotel won't let us check in until 2pm... we have a 4 and a 6 year old. We need something that will keep them busy from 12-5... with only gramma watching them! So something easy?

We thought Tivoli?

Any suggestions?

Thanks a ton!

Danish viking, we are just the two of us and want to go to Fredericksberg Castle on the day we get to Copenhagen, Wednesday 9/7, we get to the airport at 7:00 AM, a day ahead of our friends. We are staying at Clarion Hotel 27 near the Train Station, we should be there and heading out mid morning. Is the castle something we have to take the train to, or can we get to it via of the HoHO tour buses?

Gosh, a great word of THANKS is in order, for all your information and time, you have been a great help in us planning our wonderful trip to your city!

@ Munch123

The best deal would be to buy a 3 zone ticket (180 DKK) and a single 2 zone (24 DKK) ticket because you need a total of 32 zones.

First trip from the airport to freeport you need 12 zones (4 persons x 3 zones) so you use 4 clips.

From the freeport to the central station there is only 2 zones so you use only 2 clip to get the needed 6 out of 8 zones and purchase a 2 zone single ticket (24DKK) to get the needed 8 zones.

The reason why you don´t use 3 clips is because you will waste a clip on your card and also use 9 zones instead of the 8 zones you need.

From the central station to the airport you just use the last 4 clips on your card.

Tivoli or the Zoo or Experimentarium are good kids choices.

@ GROOVERS

There are some organised tours to Frederiksbor Castle but S-train Line E goes directly to Hillerød and is alot cheaper.

A 24 hour ticket cost 130 DKK but if you use the Copenhagen Card both the museum and transportation is included.

Danish Viking,

Since munch123 is going from the airport right to the cruise ship, they may not have any kroner with them when they disembark. When we disembarked to head for our hotel, we were using a klippekort for Nordhavn to Vesterport, so we didn't need to get tickets. But I saw other passengers struggling because the ticket machine only took coins. Is there somewhere (like a 7-11) at Nordhavn where they can get that single ticket? What if they want to take Bus 26?

Link to comment

There is a 7 eleven at Nordhavn and if they are arriving monday to friday they can take the bus and bus number 26 is the only bus in Copenhagen that accept euro and dollar notes but not coins.

But if they can't get a 2 zone single ticket they can use 3 clips on their card but using 9 zones instead of the 8 they need and then pay for a single 3 zone ticket from the central station to the airport together with the last 3 clips on the clip card.

But a 3 zone single ticket cost 12 DKK more (36 DKK instead of 24 DKK) than the 2 zone single ticket.

And there is actually some good savings on a clip card.

A 2 zone single ticket cost 24 DKK and and the clip card cost 140 DKK and with 10 clips it makes out to 14 DKK for a single trip instead of 24 DKK.

In this case where a 3 zone clip card is needed (one trip to the airport is 3 zones) the savings is huge.

A 3 zone single ticket cost 36 DKK but a clip card only 180 DKK so that makes out to only 18 DKK for a single trip.

We will be spending 2 days in Copenhagen post cruise. We have a 24hr CPH card, and planned to go to Tivoli the first evening, and the following day go to Amalienborg Palace, Rosenborg Castle, Christiania, and a canal tour. Is this doable in 24hrs? (We will visit Nyhavn, Stroget and the mermaid pre cruise). If we do go to Christiania, how do we get there from Hotel Mayfair?

Many thanks for all your wonderful advice,

Lory

Do you know that the canal tour starts at Nyhavn?

There are several routes to take from the mayfair to Christiania but the quickest is this one.

Take bus number 66 from just outside the central stations Tivoli entrance towards Operaen and get off at Bodenhoffs plads, from there there are only 200 meters to the main entrance at Prinsessegade.

It takes 22 minutes including walkoing from the hotel to the station and the last part to Christiania.
