Help, Please, from Roades port to Lindos

Recommended Posts

I am sure that some one has used public transit to get to Lindos from the port. Any hep would be most appreciated..........Thanks.................................

We did a cruise excursion to Lindos. We would both like to go back, and most certainly would do it on our own. The drive to/from was almost a straight-shot from the port so renting a car and driving there would not be a problem. I'm not at all opposed to public transport. Did see public buses in the Lindos area heading towards Rhodes Town but did not investigate at that time.

If I were in your position, I'd live on Google for a while hitting 'Rhodes', 'autobus', etc until I got some leads. Look for tourism sites for Rhodes itself. Don't be afraid to send a bunch of email. You'd be surprised at the good responses you'll receive.

Wish you the best in your searches.

We will try to help, but its been a while so the prices have definitely increased. There are plenty of taxis (near the ship, in old town and in new town) and they will be happy to take anyone anywhere, but its no longer cheap. Lindos is quite a distance from the port or Rhodes Town (30 miles each way) and gasoline is now pretty expensive in Greece. Another option is to use the public bus which runs from the East Side Bus Station (near Rimini Square) and they generally run every hour to 1 1/2 hours. You might want to check the bus schedule and if its not good for you than you can always grab a taxi. Those buses used to cost about 2 Euros each way. Also keep in mind that Rhodes is a huge beach resort island very popular with the Brits and Germans. While cruise passengers flock to Lindos to see the ruins (they are really ruined and overrun with so many hawkers on the road up to the ruins that you sometimes have to sqeeze through the hoards. Meanwhile, the folks that vacation on Rhodes go to Lindos for the beach (its one of the better beaches) and leave the ruins for those who love to bake in the very hot sun (there is little shelter at the ruins) while they swim in the cool seas. To give you an idea about how commercial this island has become, I offer this story. Over 15 years ago we rented a car and were near one of the beaches (probably over at Falraki) when we saw a huge construction crane sitting right on the beach. We could not figure out why a huge crane would be on a beach since there was no buildings. Well, it turned out that they used this crane for bungee jumping, hauling up the drunks (mostly Brits) and dropping them over the sea (a few crew members from our ship also did that jump). That is the nature of Rhodes. Fortunately, they have managed to keep most of the charm in Old Town, but in the busy tourist season the crowds are a bit much. Of course you can always go to a "quaint cafe" like McDonalds (only teasing,,,but they are there)

Do not take a taxi from the port to Lindos - they will charge you 120 Euros for the round trip.

Take a short walk (maybe 5 minutes) into Rhodes town and take a taxi from there - last year it was 30 Euros.

We hired a car - 2nd place we came to on route to town and it was 60 Euros (we found out about the 30 Euros taxi when we got back . . . grrr), and found our way to Lindos OK.

Getting back was a complete disaster with a broken clutch, but thats another story!

Just another thought. Rhodes is a very driver-friendly island (half the folks with cars are tourists with rentals) and a one-day rental should cost less than $100. This would allow you to drive to Lindos, and than see as much of the island as you please.

Exactly! If of course you select a better quality provider, unlike Europa cars - just outside the town walls, who hired us a lemon!
