FYI . . . for anyone going to Alaska, this card is also good for hot chocolate, which came in handy.

Is the coffee card good for ICED coffee? I love it!

Am I the only one who thinks that having to PAY extra for something that should taste good already is just nuts ?!?!!!! Why the awful syrup anyway? Seems like most people find this syrup stuff nasty:(

 

It's all about revenue...

Cruise lines only way of making that much coffee, cheap and easy....syrup based mixtures. Cruise line coffee has ALWAYS been bad.

 

Coffee brewed fresh at the Pastiserie was always free. Specialty coffee drinks had an extra charge. You guessed it...word got out there was fresh brewed FREE coffee onboard...and the place was swamped. In comes the brewed coffee 'extra charge'.

Yes they do make them, you have just to ask for it to be made with skim milk.

Yes, it is. All you have to do is ask for them to make you an iced coffee and they will. As long as they are made with brewed coffee they will not punch your card either.

On the Emerald, is the coffee card sold at the International Cafe? Does anyone know if they have sugar-free syrups as well, for flavored low-fat lattes (similar to a Starbucks "skinny latte")

Yes, you can buy the card at the International Cafe bar.

They do have flavours but not sure if they're sugar free. Sorry.

I have a question. Some posters mention a 'double', what is meant by this term.

Also does the coffee cards cover things like Irish coffee (whiskey in) or coffee with liquer in them or is it simply latte, capacino, esspreso's ect? We on Sea Princess in a few days and wondered if they have the cards.

Toto is correct, the dining room coffee is also syrup based.

For some reason I find the dining room coffee to be more palatable than HC's. I don't know the exact reason. It's possible the kitchen staff occasionally cleans their coffee machine. :p

 

 

I agree that that dining room coffee did always seem better than what was offered in the horizon court, but still not as good as fresh brewed regular coffee.

I'm confused. It's been maybe five years since we have cruised Princess. I don't remember there being a coffee bar on the Grand. Is this something new? Where are they located on the ships? We were on Freedom (RCCI) last Feb. and they had a great coffee place on the Promonade - no charge for their specialty brewed coffee anytime and great sandwiches and pastries, muffins, cakes, etc., etc., all no charge of course. I think it was Seatles Best but I could have the brand wrong, I know it wasn't Starbucks, thank God. They did swipe your card for flavored and special coffees. I don't understand Princess charging for their brewed coffee.

I bought a coffee card last year on the Crown. You could use it at the International Cafe in the lobby. I don't know about other ships but have read that there are coffee bars in the lobby. Also used it in the casino for brewed coffee and at some other lounge. The brewed regular coffee is free with the card and I think $1 without (even in the casino you pay for coffee). The card comes with 15 punches for specialty coffees such as lattes, mocha's etc but the brewed coffee is free as long as you have a punch left. I didn't use all my punches and will be able to use the same card again (if I can find what I did with it last year). It was worth every penny believe me. The Horizon coffee was horrible. Dining room coffee seemed a little better but still not what the brewed coffee was. Hope that helps.

A double is doubling the number of shots of espresso . It makes the coffee flavour stronger, which I find necessary with Princess's mochas because their espresso isn't as strong as my favourite, Starbucks. They do have Irish coffee and so forth, but there's a charge for them as there would be for any liquor-based drink -- you can't use one of the punches on the coffee card for them.

You can get specialty coffees from the bar at the covered pool on the Grand and at the Lobby Bar in the Atrium. Princess charges for brewed coffee but they do have free coffee -- the stuff made from syrup concentrate. If you don't buy the card, the brewed is only $1/cup.

Does anyone know what kind of coffee Princess uses for it's brewed coffee? I heard somewhere here on CC that the brewed coffee with the card is Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee...yum is that is correct. :)
