Don't do the stupid thing I did!

Prior to the last day of the cruise, they announced: Be sure to come to the casino and cash out any balance on your guest id card. I was SURE I had put it all in the slot machines so I didn't even go. Then I got a phone message saying I had $11 left. By then the casino was closed and it was too late to get it! :o:D

Here's another one. When they tell you to review your final bill before a certain time on the night before debarking, do it. We didn't have time before dinner and didn't get back to the room until late. It wasn't until we got on the plane to go home that I discovered they'd charged us $60 for dinner for 2 in the Penthouse Grill - only we had never eaten there. Lesson learned.

Wonder why they bothered to call and tell you about the $11 as they had to know the casino was closed.

A call that did nothing but annoy.

I suppose one could applaud for their honesty......though there was no way you were going to get that $11.00

We always check our bill before the end of the cruise.

In Fact - on longer cruises we check at least 3 times during the cruise before we get the preliminary bill and then our final bill.

ONE TIME after we got our final bill, there was a charge for six different drinks about 1 AM the night before disembarktion. Knowing that we had only one after drinner each, I never bothered to check the bill in the morning. When we got our credit card bill we saw a BIG difference in what we knew we owed and what HAL claimed we owed.

Thus a call to HAL. I informed that we could send them copies of everything we had charged. Those 6 drinks were removed.

There are times when the bar staff do not always check and run through a passengers ID card through the machines to verify who is ordering what.

I don't know whether they handle slot credits they way they do casino chips, but when I forgot about the casino cashier closing hours, I was able to cash out at the pursar's desk. Granted, it was only $5. Last thing I needed was another casino chip souvineer.

The time stamp on the message was about 12:30 and the casino closed at 1:00. I just didn't happen to be in the room to get the call. They tried.

Not sure why they can't just give you a credit on your bill but it must be some kind of gambling regulation.

I usually ask for a preliminary bill the last sea day. this gives more time on our end and theirs to correct any mistake. I find that the last day, the lines at the front desk are really long with everyone else making adjustments.

Of course, I check the final bill also.

HAL has a problem with their billing system, that's for sure. A couple of cruises back, I never bothered going over my bill with a fine tooth comb. My cabinmate was smart enough to go through hers and didn't find any problems, so I figured mine would be okay too.

I get home and find out that I was double-billed for some items I bought in the onboard shops on the last day of the cruise ... all on one receipt ... for about $35.00.

Lesson learned.

Blue skies ...

We check our bills several times during a long cruise and twice during a short one. There have been mistakes every single time.

Mostly for pop or water in the room that we didn't consume or order. Once it took 4 weeks to get the amount taken off the bill.

Occasionally it is for drinks - we don't drink at all so we know they are wrong. It is easy for someone to give the wrong number not meaning to, but just a slip of the memory, and the staff doesn't always ask for a room card.

Once we got a charge on our Visa for a bottle of wine - purchased 2 days after we got off the ship - a call to headquarters took care of it. That was when we really started to check our bills carefully.

Question from a newbie.....can you periodically check your charges from your cabin (through the TV, as some hotels allow you to do), or do you have to get a paper copy from "wherever"?

We too always check the bill, one time they charged us for a tour we never went on, it was like $250.00 or so.

On our last cruise our final bill showed a $60 Pinnacle Grill charge the night before. We hadn't eaten there. The girl behind the desk didn't act like she believed me. I quoted to her everything we had eaten the night before and gave her the names of our waiters to double check if she wished. She removed the charge. :p Always check that bill. :D

Having read on this board to check our bill, we did the night before final debarkation. Everything was fine, but could tell by personnel actions, they felt too busy to really want to print it. I think a tv channel listing bill would be great.
