I found some casino chips!

on a past cruise, non-HAL, I found a couple of $25 chips on the floor. :) So I scarfed them right up, but then I'm picturing some unfortunate soul who lost them. I took them to the cashier's desk and asked if anyone had reported lost chips.

The girl says no, but give them to her and she will put them in lost and found. Well, I said how about I give you my cabin # and you have them call me.

She says no, I have to turn them in! When I asked why, she says they are not mine. I ask her what will happen to them if no claims them by the end of the cruise. She says they go back to the casino.

I point out that, in that case, the casino just made $50. She says no, they are just plastic pieces, not real money. I am speechless. I grab the loot, and run away.:D

Sure seemed like real money when I lost them at the roulette wheel later in the evening!

That's a good story, I wonder if anyone believes it!

That's an interesting reply. I wonder if anyone thinks you are calling me a liar!

(I only lied in the "diapers in the pool" thread - about peeing in the pool from the diving board.)

I would certainly have pocketed the chips myself. There is no way that I would have handed them over to the cashier in the Casino.

Many years ago, in Tahoe I believe, I found $15.00 just lying on the floor in the Casino. Being, pretty much of the time, an honest individual I asked my husband "should I turn this in to Security?" He looked at me as though I had just lost my mind and said "so, you want to hand that Security guy a free $15.00?" Good point: I hadn't considered the fact that if I gave the guy the $15.00 the chances were better than excellent (;) ) that he wouldn't have tried to find the owner. Okay, color me stupid but I did just pocket the $15.00 and have to admit that I have not lost any sleep over my decision.

You were on the right track to ask if anyone reported a loss and you intended to keep it for the owner by sending them to your cabin. I did something similar in San Francisco. After lunch we were leaving and I saw a roll of money next to my foot. I picked it up. Someone else saw it at the same time and made up a story his wife did not back up. I asked him how much and he mumbled and left. I went to the cashier and left my name and address for anyone who says they lost money. It wasn't an enormous amount but I'm sure whoever lost it needed it. I told them to have them write and tell me approximately how much it was. I noted it didn't have to be exact. No one ever wrote us and I was disappointed. I felt at that time that anyone who made a roll out of their money in that way perhaps needed it. I actually felt pretty bad actually.

Actually, I have heard on various documentaries about Vegas that unclaimed coins in a slot machine tray are the property of the casino; probably a state law or so. So the same would apply to chips.

But we ain't in Vegas.

If you really felt uncomfortable, you could wait to get home and donate the money to a charity.

Once I bought some books at a library book sale, and when I got home I found a wedding card with $50 cash in it stuck in one of the hardbacks. I did a name search on the internet but finally just donated the money to the Friends of the Library fund.

Great Story! I spent a day in the spa on the Emerald Princess. Kept walking by an open locker all day and noticed something black in it. Finally I stopped and looked. Yup a casino chip. I also thought of turning it in. I gave it to my hubby who cashed it in. I would have gambled it away!

...:D If those 2 chips were green, then they are the 2 I lost and have been lookin all over for! You owe me, man....Shoulda let me know about'em....Bummer.....$50 would really be nice.....Oh yeah, if you find some black ones, those are the $100 chips I lost somewhere or sometime or someplace...I think....Now, of course, this being a CC board, I am sure that you are anxious to return my cash....Right?.... :D

Now see? You shoulda reported them lost! Now I feel real bad.

Tell you what: give me your credit card number and I'll issue you a credit!

:)

Actually, I'm very lucky I lost them at the casino instead of cashing them in. Because I might have taken that $50 to the art auction  !!

I would have left with a painting worth $50 - but I would have had to pay around $500 for it!

It's not fair that they prey upon the feeble-minded, after plying us with champagne!
