Reservations on the Dream

I understand that reservations are not required in the italian restaurant on the Dream but are you allowed to make them ???

When we tried to make reservations for the Italian restaurant, we were not allowed to do so and were told that it was "first come first serve".

 

There was a heck of a wait when we tried to eat there (around 7:30...the wait was 45 minutes), so I'd try to eat at off times or perhaps while the ship is docked in Bermuda...or just be prepared to wait!

...and is it correct that there is no charge? Why not stop by the desk and put your name in then head to your cabin to change for dinner? Should be just about right for a 45 minute wait?
