I have the worst room on the ship! Has this happened to you?

Recommended Posts

Here's my advice: There is no such thing as a bad room on a cruise ship, why? because you are on a cruise! But should you not like the room you were forced to take, try it the first night and if you don't like it complain and more than likely they will move you, probably upgrade since you are as low as you can go.

The reason I say spend the first night to see if you like it is all ships have several rooms empty throughout the ship for emergencies and employee on/offs like parttime entertainers.

The other solution is to pay for an upgrade before you go or at the pier. I believe you will like the room.

khinscem: I was on the Carnival in 1985 for my 14th birthday. Sounds like we had a similar cabin icon_razz.gif

I'm booked on Explorer 9/16 this year and DH and I are on deck 7 in the very, very front of the boat. We're hoping to upgrade at the Pier, but right now it looks like the boat is selling out fast. No matter what, we're having fun and you will, too!

I was on the Carnivale in 86 for my very first cruise. But my cabin was a little different, since we had the Veranda Suite (no Veranda though) and we probably paid less than you paid for the inside cabin (at least we did with everyone we met on that cruise). It was before discounts were very popular and we had a buy one get one free coupon from Piedmont Airlines.

My first cruise was LOS to Alaska, we paid BROCHURE rate which was about $1100pp for Z minus or whatever. Our cabin was first passenger deck about midship and seemed just fine untill the first night and as we tried to drift off, we heard...BOOM..... Clang..... Thud....

After about two and half hours, bleary eyed and homicidal I found the stairway down to the crew deck, doing some rough estimates I found my cabin above. It was above a large metal door on a metal door frame with a self closing spring on it. It was the door for THE WHOLE FRIGGIN CREW to go through to their cabins. So it was only going to get opened and closed another 850 times that night.

I went to the purser who said I needed to talk to the Hotel mamager who politely told me that the ship was full and they would try to look into the door but regulatation required that it be closed and the self closer was the only way to make sure.

I pointed to a couch in front of the pursers desk in the main atrium and said, that is my new cabin, I will be there for the next 6 days with a sign around my neck that says "Royal Carribean has ruined my cruise and is torturing me, ask me how".

45 minutes later we were moved to another cabin, they packed our belongings and issued new room keys. Apparently it was indeed a full ship but there were some RCL employeees sailing that would make the swap.

I got a guarantee cabin once and they put me accross from the public laundry. People washed clothes from 6:00am until 1:30am. Clanging zippers in the dryer, people having a party even with the sign, keep door closed, not one person had the consideration of the people in the room they were standing at in the hall. From then on I specify a cabin when I reserve.

We recently got a really bad room when booking a gty. We will never book a gty. again unless we expect to get the worst possible room.

The price would have to be VERY good (and it was for the last cruise).

Did we enjoy the cruise? YES. It didn't help that the "bad" room as far as location, also had a non-functional air conditioner! Oh well, live and learn!

Just go with a good attitude and you will be fine. Luckily we had an AWESOME room steward or we would have asked for a new room assignment as soon as the air conditioner started acting up. Okay the air wasn't totally broke, just needed to be fixed almost daily and always right before dinner when it was steamy from the shower so my straight hair didn't have a chance in he*double hockey sticks of holding a curl....

I still love to cruise and am totally addicted! icon_smile.gif
