vanislandcruisers Posted July 15, 2008 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2008 Got it on our Freedom Cruise in January....was very good.....it was in our Cabin when we got there...the basket doesn't stand out for us so don't think it was anything memorable...the fruit was excellent and lasted much longer than the wine
Marie51 Posted July 16, 2008 #3 Share Posted July 16, 2008 I got the wine & fruit basket from my travel agent on the Victory in May. There were oranges, apples, bananas, kiwis, grapes, cheese & crackers, dried figs, and a bottle of white wine, don't remember the brand. It was nice. pacarolinagirl Posted July 16, 2008 #4 Share Posted July 16, 2008 Glad to read that it was good. I wanted to do something along those lines as well. It will be our 10th anniversary! How are the choc covered strawberries? OR the cake? :)
babywewe Posted July 16, 2008 #5 Share Posted July 16, 2008 It is so easy to get fruit on board. Go with a better bottle of wine!
sjcruiser Posted July 16, 2008 #6 Share Posted July 16, 2008 Cut up the fruit and ut it in the wine. Instant Sangria!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mcfam5 Posted July 16, 2008 #7 Share Posted July 16, 2008 I received one for my birthday last fall aboard the Glory ~ it was in our stateroom when we arrived. Honestly, it wasn't anything spectacular. Like an earlier poster said, fruit is so accessible onboard it seems silly to have a basket full of it. We didn't open the wine until we got home and probably 80% of the food didn't get eaten. Might I suggest some options . . . ~ High Seas basket ~ Bottle of Champage (bring two flutes with you and then enjoy the champagne at sail away) ~ Champagne and chocolate covered strawberries ~ His & Hers Bathrobes (or beach towels, t-shirts, visors, etc.) Hope this helps!:)
Gingee Posted July 16, 2008 #8 Share Posted July 16, 2008 I just ordered the chocolate covered strawberries for my mom (her first cruise in many years), a shirt for my husband, Carnival cocktail book (probably a couple pages) for daughter's boyfriend and a $15 photo coupon for my daughter. First cruise for boyfriend and mom. Anyone hear about the cocktail book?

CWcruisers Posted July 16, 2008 #10 Share Posted July 16, 2008 You can choose either white or red wine for the basket, but honestly, we get them all the time because we escort groups on ships and the hotel director sends them to us. We usually end up throwing away most of the fruit because I get all the fruit I need at my meals. Do like the nuts and cheeses with the wine. But the wine is one of the less expensive varieties, used to be strange ones but now it is usually CA wines. I would go for champagne, strawberrys and a couples massage! luvz2run2000 Posted July 16, 2008 #11 Share Posted July 16, 2008 You don't need to bring your own champagne flutes on board with you. I just ask a bartender for them and they've never said no.
Carolinamamasita Posted July 16, 2008 #12 Share Posted July 16, 2008 I just ordered the chocolate covered strawberries for my mom (her first cruise in many years), a shirt for my husband, Carnival cocktail book (probably a couple pages) for daughter's boyfriend and a $15 photo coupon for my daughter. First cruise for boyfriend and mom. Anyone hear about the cocktail book? The carnival Cocktails book is very nice I am sure everyone will be using it ;) on the cruise I buy one every year beautiful pages with pictures of many of the drinks !! Nice choice !!:)
big_duck Posted July 16, 2008 #13 Share Posted July 16, 2008 used to be strange ones but now it is usually CA wines. So any wine not from CA is strange?
sailorwife Posted July 16, 2008 #14 Share Posted July 16, 2008 We got it as a gift and like the others said it is nice but you can get all the fruit you want, get a nice bottle of wine and some covered strawberries, or the canapes and wine sailorwife
Chris64 Posted July 16, 2008 #15 Share Posted July 16, 2008 I have had both the fruit/wine basket and the chocolate covered strawberries/champagne. My preference is definitely the berries/pagne. As a provious poster stated, you can get fruit on the ship on the buffet in the mornings, and the wine is just so-so. But the choc berries and the pagne..... mmmmmmm mmmmmmmm. We thoroughly enjoyed them. And from a guys standpoint, a little more romantic too...
crusinpsychRN Posted July 16, 2008 #16 Share Posted July 16, 2008 We usually get the fruit and wine basket and like it a lot. Sure, there's lots of fruit on board but not in your room when you feel like some. Cheese and crackers are yummy too. Take a corkscrew to open the wine. I like to have a gift in the room when I arrive on board.

Chris64 Posted July 16, 2008 #18 Share Posted July 16, 2008 OK, seems like you have (as always) difference of opinions and point of views. That is what is so great about these boards, you get different opinions and then you can use them to make up your own mind. Basket or pagne/berries, I don't hink you can go wrong as long as you are happy with it and don't "what if" yourself once you make the decision. Either way, have a great cruise and let us know how it went.
