Just one more reason that I take care of my travel insurance myself. I didn't read the entire thread but it sounds as if her TA cancelled the policy and reissued it under a new company, costing the client their pre-existing coverage. I'd NEVER do business with them if that's the case.

As it is, I purchase my own policy and have keep control of it myself. Then, if something happens, there's no one to blame but myself.

I hope someone makes this right. Can someone cancel a policy without notification after it is written? I don't think that is the case. To me that is not legal. A policy was written for that person.

I always use my AAA membership, same benefits as the other compainies online and cruise lines at a HUGE discount, just purchased for Nov. Sailing of NOS rate is $50.00 per $1,000 of coverage so $50.00 pp cover cruise, airfare and car rental - we have 2 adults and 3 kids traveling and ins. can really add up - if you are a AAA member call the number on the back of you card and ask for a TA who handles ins. - fast polite and great price. Booked cruise through another agency and no hassel over "why didn't you book with us, gave them the price I booked for and they couldn't touch it, but the ins. is a deal)

We seldom use insurance (after about 35 cruises we figure we are ahead of the game) but did use CSA on 3 cruises when we had concerns about elderly parents. We booked CSA directly from their web site with no problems. On one of those cruises, we had to cancel at the last minute due to sickness (of one or our parents) which soon turned into death (happened when we would have been on the cruise). CSA quickly paid our claim once we filed all the necessary papers. We would use them again with no hestiation. In many cases, you will find insurance cheaper when booked directly through the insurance companies (sometimes they increase benefits rather than decrease price). TAs like to push insurance because they receive a nice commission for their trouble (no crime in making a buck).

Good news for those of you who want the CSA through CO... they will honor the CSA insurance which includes the pre-existing. Just call customer service and ask for a supervisor. They are honoring the CSA original insurance for us.
