Turning 18 on Ship

My daughter had a different color S & S card. That's the indication she's a minor. If they don't change his color card during the trip, I wouldn't worry about it.

Not true as I have two daughters. Color of the card on a Carnival ship is based on three things.

Blue 1st time cruiser

Gold Cruise 2-9

Platinum Cruise 10 and greater

Some ships will punch a hole in the card to indicate they are a minor. Most of the time it shows up when the card is run for a drink purchase.

They should let him stay as that was the age he started the cruise on.

I think the official rule is whatever age he is on the day the cruise set sails is his age for the entire cruise.

So if you are only 20 on the day the cruise leaves and you turn 21 during the week you still can not purchase alcohol because they have you coded as 20 and underage.

This is coming from an 18 year old...so I know how the system for the club works with reguards to age.

When you enter the club, all they want to see is a government issued photo ID (passport, drivers licence, state-issued ID card, ect). They look at it, verify your age, and thats it. There is no sign-and-sail swiping as others have indicated, and if you are 17 the day you board, the moment you turn 18 you are allowed in the casino and club alike. My 18th birthday was on a cruise.

on our last cruise my son turned 18y...he was always used to going to the teen clubs, met friends & had a blast...our last cruise (march) on NCL there wasn't a thing for him to do...except gamble...he was old enough to drink beer in their eyes but not old enough to go to the clubs, so they had nothing for 18-20 yr olds...we are going on the Miracle in August, do they have stuff for his age group? thanks!!

They don't have anything organized for this age group, but the only thing he won't be able to do is drink. He can gamble and go in all the ship's bars and clubs, he just won't be able to drink.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad he'll still be able to go. He is very social. That is one reason I wanted to plan one more cruise before he turns 18 and starts college. Don't know how much he'll be able to travel with us then anyway.

I think the first post above is TRUE for BOOZE, whereas the 2nd post above is TRUE for GAMBLING and DISCO ! ! (how's that for fence-sitting?) :D

not drinking is fine with me...but curious...on NCL they had a waiver to sign to give permission to drink wine or beer...is that on carnival too?

No you have to be 21 on or before you embark to drink on the ship. Most ports they will be able to. Can't in the ones that are USA (Alaska, Key West, Hawaii)

I have read on these boards that once you turn 21 you can take your licence and birth cert or your passport to the pursers desk and they will fix your sail and sigh so you can purchase drinks.

My cousin turned 21 on our last cruise. Between bingo and the production show they called her up on stage, the audience sang happy birthday, and they gave her a bottle of champagne!!! They definatly considered her 21! It was a great b-day present! :)

This was on the Valor and they had a fabulous entertainment crew!

Sail & Sign cards are also marked in the computer for Minors. I watched two 13 year old girls at the bar trying to order Adult Drinks and luckly the bar tender said your too young to order that. The girls then told him to just give them soda. I was like    shocked. Later I saw them walking with an Adult guy and with foo foo drinks in each hand.

This is my problem, too. When we cruise in December for my first time, I'll be 20 and my friend will be 18. We want to meet people our age and avoid the drinkers. Our age group is kind of left hanging. :(

That's a disaster waiting to happen. You gotta wonder where their parents were. 13 year old girls with a little freedom can be a dangerous thing, especially if they have that kind of nerve to try to order themselves.

OP, depending when you go there might be others his age to hang out with. During a less busy time, he'll probably be somewhat bored. They need to set up some kind of meet and greet for the 18-20 year olds on the first evening so they can meet each other. If nothing else, they could hang out at the pool together and go to shows or something. At that age, just being with other people your own age is more important than what you're actually doing.
