You are going on ANOTHER cruise?

As you can see in my signature, I haven't been on that many cruises. I went on Freedom in 2006 with just my husband. Last May I went on Mariner with just my 2 kids who are in college. This September, hubby and I are going back on Freedom and next year for the first time, all 4 of us are going on a cruise together. You would not believe how many people say to me "You're going on ANOTHER cruise?" It's not like I cruise every other month. I live 2 hours from the Jersey shore and people go there EVERY year for vacation. I guarantee you that my cruise vacations don't cost that much more than their trips to the Jersey shore.

Just wondering if anyone else has people ask them about being on more than one cruise. Wanda

Some time ago there was a story in the papers about a lady who cruises every day of her life -- leaves one boat and boards another. Maybe some others can remember more of the story than I.

Some of our friends would always comment about how many cruises we take. So........we ask them.........Why don't you join us?..........

This has worked on three occasions, and we have had friends join us for their first cruise...........and then they start planning their second..........and third...........

I think there is an assumption out there by those that don't cruise that cruising is an expensive vacation and the same assumption by many that may have cruised only once and by their own choice spend a great deal of money so they assume that eveyone spends that much or more everytime they cruise.

Iam always amazed by the posts of some of the less frequent crusiers who love to brag about their bar bills and their casino costs. Because I am not into to drinking or gambling I find crusing very affordable and much less expensive then a week at Disneyworld.

Some friends of our we have talked into cruising twice. He loves deep sea fishing. They did have a huge boat and a RV and was spending bookoos of money on those two things. what was ironic about that is- they would look at us and say "it must be nice to go on all those crusies," once we explained what it cost us they changed their tune as they paid much more for their expensive"hobby".

Now, they did sell their RV and because of the cost of gas they are selling their boat also. Hubby still goes deep sea fishing with them and I do also occasionially. Now we rent a beach house together and charter a boat for the day. That is MUCH less expensive then what they were doing.

Still, though, they are not into crusing the way we are, but we can talk them into a cruise every couple of years!

People ask us: where are you cruising to next? They know we love it.
Yeah...we get that a LOT. Our cruise vacations tend to be longer than 7 days...so people requested that we blog and post what's going on with us during the trip (with pictures of course). While it seemed funny at first, I started doing that during our last 33 day long trip (Alaska and Far East Sept-Oct 2007, see link below).

I found that while the ship's internet connection was truely a beating, I actually enjoyed doing it. Now I have a record of our trip that helps jar memories and helps us re-enjoy it all over again. I recommend this to anyone who has family/friends who tease them about their trips. (For the most part isn't it envy anyway?) Make it interesting and funny...you will really be surprised at how many will keep up with you. :)

Do we care what people say about our vacation habits? Not really! :D We live less than an hour and a half from the Jersey shore, a house in Florida 2 minutes from the beach, and we have a timeshare in Cancun ... but we LOVE cruising and plan to continue doing it.

I'll have to agree with you there! My last S&S bill was for 3 of us. The tips were on the bill, and it came to $180. So, basically I spent $60 on things other than tips. I bought 2 8X10's. The rest were drinks. I think I had one drink each day.

After 31 cruises anyone who knows me well simply says "are you going anywhere great this time?" My boss, when I go to him with my vacation request form, just nods his head and says he must be paying me too much if I am off on another ship.

I simply smile.

I get the military or past guest discount and am waiting to get onboard in a two weeks to see what kind of discounts and OBC, Carnival is offering to book my cruise for next year. I'm looking at either Alaska, Hawaii or the Eastern Med./Europe.

Cruising may not be for everyone (THANK GOODNESS!!!) but for me it's the only way to go!!! We still do a land based vacation occasionally but a cruise to almost anywhere always beats sitting in one place for 2 weeks!!

I think the one comment that has repeated itself over and over is "aren't you bored?" Always comes from someone who has never cruised!!! Last cruise was 35 days and it took me 3 weeks to read one book!!! I was too busy!!!

OMG - I can totally relate! I think I'm the only cruise-a-holic in the office! My boss says the same thing "you're going on another cruise? Don't you ever want to try something different?" My response - "uh, no!" It's not like we cruise every month either - just 2-3X per year! LOL I talked him into going on the NCL Jewel about 3 years ago but that type of cruising isn't for him - he likes smaller yacht-type ships - unlike me who likes larger ships with lots of people! People who haven't cruised just don't understand our passion for cruising and not staying in hotels.

My main job I don't talk about cruising too much, they all know we go on cruises and once in a while another co-worker will ask advise. I'm more than happy to talk with them.

But....my second job is in a luggage store and I get people all the time in there talking about cruising. From the first timers to the well-seasoned, it's delightful to share information.

My husband does get more of it than I do, his clients always ask "when's the next cruise?" Most of the time, he has an answer for them :)

My friends and co workers enjoy hearing about my cruises. In fact I usually have some cruise pics up in my cube at work. Those few that give nasty and snide remarks, I ignore!

Our only regrets about cruising once a year are:

1. That we don't do more cruises (but there are so many other vacations to take...)

2. That we didn't start our annual cruises much, much earlier in our lives...

I certainly can appreciate that one of the only "good" decisions I've made in my 27yrs was to start cruising when I was 25 ....... Since I got hooked, I live my life one count-down clock at a time! I used to live next to Long Beach Island, New Jersey and I dont miss that god-forsaken island, one bit. How could people enjoy a vacation in one place?? All they do is go to the beach and eat soft serve ice cream. I also like when these non-cruisers say; all there is to do on a cruise is eat......listen Tony Little, the ship isnt one big buffet line. And the most famous line I hear is that they get sea-sick.....come on man.....the cruise ship is bigger than a football field and like 6 stories high....these people's image of a cruise replicates that show "Deadliest Catch". Darn....I lost my sail and sign card again......:D

I am certainly with you on "living my life one countdown clock at a time". I also don't see how some people can do the same vacation over and over and over again. (I guess I could do Las Vegas a couple of times because there are so many things to do.) But, on a cruise ship you are visiting different places each day. Also, even if you have been to the country before, there are still many different things to do. As for people stating they will get seasick, I always say don't knock it until you try it.

You're going on the Imagination next? You're going to love it. The rennovations they have done are fantastic! I've got pictures in my review if you're interested. The review is in my signature.

Yes - I get that a lot too.

It makes me really depressed. So depressed, in fact, that I need to go on a cruise just to feel better.

That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it!

I spent the first 20 years of my married life going on vacations to relative's houses and sleeping on their floors. So when we took our first cruise -- to mark our 25th anniversary -- I felt I deserved it!

A "type A" person, my biggest fear after the thought of drowning was that I would be bored. As you cruisers know, you have to want to be bored to be bored on a cruise ship. I got hooked very easily and now I live to cruise.

Today, with more cruises and a divorce under my belt, I still want to cruise. Unfortunately, my usual verandah or mini suite cabin has become the cheapest inside you can get because my finances have changed. But it's what you make it, and being at sea is where I want to be. You find a way.

I notice so many people just blowing their money on frivolous stuff every day. If they would save that $5-$6 cup of coffee and pastry each day, they could be cruising too. It's all a matter of priorities.;)
