Dawn beach lately?

How is Dawn Beach since the Westin hotel was built at one end? Is it still a nice place and are is the beach bar still there?

Yes, you really can't walk directly to the Westin because of the large rocks between Oyster Bay and the Westin.

Mr. B's still has .75 beers on the beach.

Just spent a week there (at Oyster Bay Beach Resort). The Westin is just something to see in the distance, no impact on Dawn Beach by OBBR (although I'm sure the view was better before they built it). And Mr. Busby's is the best beach bar/restaurant!

It is a safe area overall and I would not hesitate to stay there again. You may recall there was a woman from California approx. one year ago who "disappeared" in St. Maarten after drinking while walking to the Westin to gamble. She had walked out to the road leading to the resorts which is not lit, doesn't have sidewalks and has dense vegatation on both sides of the street. She had been drinking and probably had a few $$ on her as she was going to the casino at the Westin. Speculation is that she may have been abducted as St. Maarten has had a few incidents with carjackings. She might have also fallen off a steep cliff area off the narrow road. I might add that you cannot walk to the Westin resort from Oyster Bay Beach resort because of a large outcropping of rocks.

That being said, the beach, restaurant and resort areas themselves are very nice and safe. I just would not recommend walking out on the street area after dark.
