hawkfanI Posted August 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 2, 2008 Has anyone ever used a satellite internet connection while on a ship? I was wondering if you could purchase a short term satellite WIFI?

buzzor Posted August 2, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 2, 2008 Has anyone ever used a satellite internet connection while on a ship? I was wondering if you could purchase a short term satellite WIFI? Not really sure what you are asking? If you are asking out internet connection on ships, they are contracted out to a company Sea Mobil. http://www.seamobile.com/products_services/wi-fi.aspx Most large ships have internet cafe's where you can access the internet on a per minute charge (around $0.75 a minute) or though "packages". Some ships have limited WiFi access (per fee of course) in some area, however WiFi and ships aren't very friendly. Too much steel on a ship. I am assuming that by WiFi you are discussing the 802.11x standard and not mobil (3G) access. There is cell sevice on a ship, but it's not 3G. Internet access is very slow in either case. triplej2484 Posted August 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 2, 2008 There's nothing like that available. Satellite ISPs require a satellite dish and are usually quite expensive.
