We have recently come back from independence of the seas and our next cruise is on the grand,Royal carribean allowed us to fill out a consent form to allow our 18yr old to drink alcohol do princess have the same setup???

I thought Royal Caribbean had changed that policy. In December of 06, we sailed with our 18 year old and it was not an option. We were not looking for it to be, either but I remember reading at the time that they had changed the policy so that passengers had to 21 at the time of boarding in order to drink. They can gamble at 18 but not drink.

On Princess ships operating out of Australia, the minimum age for drinking alcohol is 18, the same as Australian law. Quoted from the Princess Booking Conditions -

"The legal age to consume alcohol on board is 18 years."

Answer: We kindly request that you do not bring alcoholic beverages (other than wine and/or champagne) onboard for consumption. Alcoholic beverages that are purchased duty free from the ship's gift shop or at ports of call will be collected for safekeeping and delivered to your stateroom on the last day of the voyage. A member of our Security Staff will be at the gangway to assist with the storage of your alcoholic beverage purchases.

Question: What are the age restrictions for alcohol consumption and access to the casino and disco?

Answer: The legal drinking age of 21 years is always observed onboard and proof of age may be required. All onboard staff are trained to take seriously their responsibility to not serve alcohol to underage passengers.

The age restrictions are clearly posted in the bars. Entry into the disco is limited to passengers 18 years and older. Be sure to check with the child and teen centers, however, for special disco events designed just for kids. Children under the age of 18 are welcome in the gymnasium, spa and jacuzzi; and also in the evening entertainment show lounges when accompanied by a parent or guardian.

In line with domestic age limits, as well as Princess' company policy, the casino is reserved for passengers 21 years and older. Additionally, only those passengers 21 years and older will be allowed to purchase or consume alcohol. For those whose age is questionable, picture identification may be requested.

Don't listen to them. Princess ships sailing from the UK and Australia follow local laws - legal age is 18. The bar signs, patters etc are all adjusted. Several dozen Americans will now tell you that's wrong. Don't listen.

I believe Happyscot is correct - he must be posting before the pubs open. :) When sailing from US ports, the ships have to comply with US laws, but are not bound to do so when sailing from other countries.

Yankee lovely friends, you have to try and understand that the American way is just that - the AMERICAN way. The rest of us arn't actually bound by sacred law to follow it. It is possible - hush, can it be true - for us (ie the rest of the human race) - to occasionally, just occasionally, take our own decisions about such earth-shaking matters such as the age at which our loin-fruit can half a half pint of bloody beer!!!!

This should give you an idea. Granted, it was in preparation for a 31-day cruise. :) As long as it's for your own consumption, it's not a problem.
