Mariner Casino as smoking lounge

Recommended Posts

We're booked on an upcoming Mariner Alaska trip and I've purposefully chosen a category H close to the casino so my partner can use it as a smoking area. I can't recall from our South Pacific trip on Mariner if the casino doors are open/unlocked outside of normal casino hours (we spent so many days at sea it was hardly ever closed). I seem to recall entrances to the casino being closed unlike other ships where the casino is in the main traffic flow and can't be closed off even when in port.

Also, is the promenade on deck 6 considered an open deck area for smoking per the new policy? Or is deck 12, Horizon lounge balcony and part of deck 11 (pool bar) the only open deck area for smoking? I tried asking some of the CSRs in Omaha, but they had no idea.

Thanks, maybe these inconveniences may actually help him quit the darn things.

P.S. one last thing, does anyone know if our favorite Compass Rose server "Sherwin" is still onboard? We were last onboard in April 06.

Smoking is allowed in the casino only when they are open. Otherwise the doors are locked. The Connossieur Club (Deck 6) is an enclosed area where a few of us smokers congregated, as well as the Horizon Lounge balcony (same deck). You can also smoke in the pool area but that is it.

Stars lounge was where we saw most people smoking a couple of months ago. I have heard that it's used for the children's program in the summer (hope they disinfected it -- you could smell it from down the hall). Still, it could be another option.

In 3 cruises on the Mariner I have only ever seen Stars used for special parties/lectures etc. Since it is right next to the wonderful coffee area and the computer lab RSSC should think about closing off the silly staircase that leads down from the Casino and enlarging both the coffee area and the computer area. There would still be room for a smoking bar, totally enclosed!

On our Latin American cruise we took part in the Falklands CoI. The main lecture we had was in Stars, at 3pm. The noise from the Casino, coming down the staircase, reallyl interfered with the lecture and it was too bad!!

I have never really understood why that staircase is there!!

My family spent 2 months in cabins 736 and 738, four and five doors down the hall from the casino and I can say that we never heard any noise from there in those cabins. I don't even recall smelling cigarette smoke in the hall near our cabins. I think the closest we heard or smelled the casino walking towards it from the cabins was once we had gone into the wider hall past the public restrooms. I doubt you will even notice the casino unless you walk right past the open doors when it is open or enter it. Debbie
