cruise junky joan Posted August 11, 2008 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2008 Has anyone done a whale watching out of Cape Cod or nearby in October? They don't seem to be very long compared to the tours i have taken in Alaska, some of which last upwards of 7 to 8 hours. How rough is the water that time of year? the2006Junket Posted August 28, 2008 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2008 Hi there, it's been a few years since I've done a whale watch out of Provincetown, but the reason they aren't that long is because the whales are verrry close by. Usually they sail out for about 45 min. until you start seeing the whales. The water can be rougher in the fall if it's been stormy, but can also be calm. Bring some medication if you are prone. Enjoy, Lynne
Rare DOJO466 Posted August 29, 2008 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2008 Did a whale watch out of Hyannis 2 years ago. The whales are close by about an 1-1/2hr. There is an area where there seems to be a pod of whales (and a shark) that reside there as if they were in an aquarium. The guides know exactly what area they are in and will give you a "guarantee" that you will see them. It was a fun trip.
SailMeAwayEveryday Posted August 31, 2008 #4 Share Posted August 31, 2008 Best bet is Provincetown. Short ride and great selection of boats. Whales are very abundant and it's great fun. October can be rough or really nice. Just watch the weather. North winds can make for rough seas. South West and it's liable to be flat calm.
