baldman70 Posted August 2, 2009 #576 Share Posted August 2, 2009 We have cruise booked on the Fascination in October looking for some photos of common areas, rooms, pool area, buffet, dinning room, and of course the food. If anyone has any capers for the Half Moon Cay and Nassau would be great.
Don_in_Alabama Posted August 9, 2009 #577 Share Posted August 9, 2009 I have never been on a cruise before, and I'm thinking of taking the on this ship that's leaving October 17th. There is so much info here to go thru I hope that my questions won't be too repetitive. I'll be driving down from North Alabama and was wondering about parking to leave my truck somewhere while on the cruise? Does anyone know how far the parking is away from the docks, how to get to the docks from the parking and how much is the parking? Do I need to pre-reserve the parking or can I just go in and park and pay? Anything else a cruise-noob should know?
kimmimom Posted August 9, 2009 #578 Share Posted August 9, 2009 It is not far from the port to the lot, but we usually drop off the people and luggage at the curb adn then one person parks the car and walks back (they have a golf car dtoo). I think it was $15/day in Jan when we went. Going again Sept 19 and can't wait! if you choose to arrive the day before, you can find some hotels wher eyou can park for free during cruise and catch a shuttle if you stay at hotel fir 1night before cruise. We have not done the free parking at a hotel in Jx before
Don_in_Alabama Posted August 9, 2009 #579 Share Posted August 9, 2009 If the parking is within walking distance, that's GREAT! And 15 bucks a day, that's much less than I was expecting. What I'll probably do is leave here that Friday and drive part way down, Geocaching along the way, and then find a cheap motel on the interstate and then drive the rest of the way on Saturday morning. That reminds me, I gotta remember to get the coordinates for the Geocaches on this islands!! Thanx for the info!

Don_in_Alabama Posted August 11, 2009 #583 Share Posted August 11, 2009 I was reading about those card strip safes, that you can use any card with a magnetic strip on the back. If that's so, then how is that safe safe??? Anyone with a card could open it.

If that's so, then how is that safe safe??? Anyone with a card could open it. It has to be the same card you locked it with... each time you can use a different card BUT the card you locked it with is the ONLY card that will open it. Don't use room key i.e. sign and sail card. Some get a walmart card with $5 on it and use it. We generally use one credit card we rarely use, store it somewhere safe.

gatour Posted August 12, 2009 #586 Share Posted August 12, 2009 I usually keep a old hotel swipe card with me. I keep that card in one pocket while the cabin key card is in a separate pocket, less chance of losing both at the same time if you are parnoid. CruisinCindy55 Posted August 12, 2009 #588 Share Posted August 12, 2009 OR a Wal-Mart or store card with a 0 balance works. I grab one and don't load anything onto it. :-) They are happy to give me one.

Someone that works at a Walmart just posted that Walmart has gotten a little mad about doing that and might get you for shoplifting... I've never heard that but it was posted. bobsfamily Posted August 12, 2009 #591 Share Posted August 12, 2009 I wonder if an old slot machine card from a casino that's no longer in operation would work. From what I have read/seen as long as it has a magnetic strip with some sort of info stored on it, it will work. It has to have a way of knowing it is the same card. bobsfamily Posted August 14, 2009 #596 Share Posted August 14, 2009 Incorrect. Home port embarkation/debarkation is still done on Deck 3. Sorry WRONG!! We arrived on the Empress deck in Jan. and left from the same upon our return. That is the reason for walking up steps at the home port.

Probably shouldn't go out of your way to insult someone who clearly has more relevant knowledge of the subject if you haven't been on there in eight months.
