Look what's behind Fay....

Another system with medium probability of giving us a headache (or worse!!) :

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

I know will be dumping a lot of rain on Florida (and smacking the southwest coast), but it's this new wave that concerns me, as we leave on Monday Sept.1st. Four years ago we endured another Labor Day storm, Frances 9or was it Jean?!). and of course the Labor day 'cane of 1935....

What?? Me worry ??

Well we leave on the 6th and this is starting to get to me. We have sailed in August before, in fact the day after Charley hit, but were always in Florida at least 3 or 4 days before. Just want to be able to make my flight and get to Florida.

Not living in a hurricane prone area, I'm pretty ignorant as to how this all shapes up.

We're (theoretically) leaving out of Miami for Nassau on Friday, 8/22.

Do you think this new system will affect us?

Hardly a chance.

Nat'l. Hurricane center 'boxes up' these pre-Depression weather lumps in three colours.

When the graphic is all boxed-up in yellow, forget about it.

When it's in an orange box...start to take some interest.

When it's boxed-up in red...now we're getting somewhere!

I live in the islands and we keep a very keen eye on these things.

This year hasn't been up to much. It's a slow one..

but having said that you should be aware that we are approaching the statistical peak-date

for Hurricane and Tropical Storm activity in the Tropical Atlantic

-and that statistical peak-date is September 9th. :)

So keep your worry-hat near by

but don't let this stuff ruin yer life or yer cruise! :D

Oh you'll love it. Life life dangerously! :)

The cruise ships have amazing weather detection/avoidance stuff these days!

heck even we do, right here on the average guy's internet if you know where to look!

Have a great wedding and a lasting marriage! -and enjoy your cruise

even if you lose a stop or two here and there due to re-routing.

It's not the end of the world.

The best destination of all is the ship itself -remember that.:)

Hi!

Are there any new updates on the areas of concern behind Fay? When will like the weather channel and stuff start talking about them... only if they become a problem?

I'm leaving September 7th for my honeymoon cruise :D and am just wondering how bad I'll need to be holding onto the handrails and how much dramamine I'll need to pack for DF. lol.

Hopefully we'll hear some updates soon!

Fay's in the northern part of Florida now. But, there are two formations out there that could possibly grow into storms. If you'd like to keep up to date you can check out this link: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/.

I'm hoping the 2 formations are gone by the time you cruise so that you can have a wonderful honeymoon. :)

During this time of the year, most of the Caribbean and other tropical and sub-tropical areas get afternoon and evening thunderstorms with copious amounts of rain. They are usually short lived - of the 20-30 minute variety. It's very, very humid in the summer/early fall months which builds to storms in the afternoon.

Not enough to ruin your cruise at all.

It's a trade off - lower prices, chancy weather systems.

It means that your cruise is right around

the most likely time of year for there to be a hurricane or tropical storm! :)

Will it happen for you? Who knows? Most likely not!

Particularly since your Captain is well versed in bad weather avoidance

and has all the modern satellite technology at his disposal to make informed decisions!

(Plus he doesn't want to bang up RCCL's half-billion dollar boat.

He'd get in a whole heap of trouble for that!

and probably have to stay behind in Detention, for at least a week!);)

What will San Juan be like when you arrive?

It'll be humid,warm and sunny - I promise.:D

Thanks for the wishes, this will be our 5th anniversary. :) We've already made it thru one round, our honeymoon cruise we were squeezed between 2 hurricanes but we had mostly beautiful weather thru the whole thing except the record rainfall we had in Key West. I am excited just to be going! Whatever happens, it will be an adventure!:D

By the way, congrats Zetalove on YOUR wedding and honeymoon!

We live on the west coast so we have never had to deal with a hurricane before. We are planning to go to Tampa on Friday for our cruise on the Inspiration. I've have been almost obsessed with the National Hurricane Center website, now there is 2 weather formations out there. Should I be worried because I'm starting to freak out .

Relax, I live in the Tampa area and the forecast is just for the usual summer weather, meaning late afternoon downpours that last an hour or so. You may be a bit late if you're arriving in the late afternoon, but you'll get there. Enjoy your cruise.

I've been almost obsessed with the National Hurricane Center website,

now there is 2 weather formations out there.

Should I be worried because I'm starting to freak out .

Those lil rings in yellow and orange are nuthin to freak out about.

Start getting slightly worried when they're boxed in red

...which is the stage before they are considered a Trop. depression,

which is the stage before they're named as a Trop. Storm

And which is still one stage away from a Cat. 1 Hurricane

which is no big deal, at least not down here in the islands

(unless you live in a shack in an outlying area that's exposed)

Learn the language/choice of wording the Natl. Hurr. Center guys use.

Over the years I've grown accustomed to it, and when you hear them talking about

it has the (vague!) "possibility to become more organised over the next day or so",

and they're still saying that a week later, and it's still boxed-up in yellow...

.. that system is Not Happening, girl!

I guess I'm a lot more tuned in to the weather, living where I do

than you are.

I'm a LOT more worried about Tornadoes where U live!!

Those things give you what? 20 secs. notice?

With Hurricanes we get 3-4 days notice, especially if you're tuned into better weather websites

(I have a weather folder on my browser, a foot long!)
