Tipping

Just read a heated tipping discussion in the archives, so I'm not going to get into how much to tip or my philosophies about it. My question is about when and how is the tipping done. My wife and I will be taking our first cruise from October 19 - November 2, doing the Grand European Cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. Is all the tipping done at the end of the cruise as might be implied by the tipping envelope that was mentioned as being provided or is tipping done daily for room cleaning, meals, tours, etc.?

Len - Yes, one tips at the end. We used the envelope provided for the standard tip and also tipped in person to those special few.

Tip bus drivers and local guides as you go along.

You tip the ship's staff at the end. People you see for just one day (bus drivers, local guides, etc.) are tipped when you are leaving them.

We usually slip $20 to the bartender & a waiter (one we decide will be best) early in the cruise. They really appreciate it and it pays off with special treatment throughout trip. :D

 

At the end, we leave the recommended amount in an envelope. The crew puts out a collection box on the next to last day.
