Middleager Posted September 2, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2008 Was on Liberty last week. They had a station offering certificates for purchase at $100. (Didn't see discussions on these, so hope it's not an old topic) A certificate is worth $100 deposit toward next cruise booking, plus OBC depending on length of cruise, in your name. For 3-5 days the OBC is $50, 6-days is $75, 7-11 days is $100, and 12+days is $200. If you don't use it within 5 years, it's 100% refundable. The OBC is combinable with any other OBC or offers. If you book the next cruise right away, you get 2 vouchers that can be given to anyone, who can get the same OBC if they book the same cruise as you within 60 days. (I think the only drawback in booking right away is you don't have a chance to get the $50 past guest booking that is sometimes offered, if you book within 60 days of your last completed cruise) This sounded good, as each $100 bought can be worth at least $150 toward next cruise booking. But the best part is it's totally refundable. We bought 4 certificates, 2 in my name and 2 in my wife's name. This is because if we want to book 2 cabins in the same trip, I cannot book 2 cabins in my name only, or my wife's name only. This offer is supposed to be only on Conquest class ships plus one other ship (forgot), since Apr. But they are planning to extend this to all other ships. My BIL said they saw similar offer on RCI last fall, but it is not refundable. Carnival's is refundable, making it much better. They also bought 2 certificates. Our MIL bought 2, and other friends also bought. Guess Carnival succeeded in hooking us for next few cruises.
nklpikl Posted September 2, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2008 I think that is wonderful. As you mention RCL has been doing it as well as Princess. I have heard that it is on a few ships, but thanks for passing on more info. I dont think it will ever hit the Fantasy class, which is really to bad since I am on one in November! popsec Posted September 2, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2008 We were on the Fascination this winter and they had them but when I pressed for more info I learned that they couldn't be combined with the military discount :(
Middleager Posted September 2, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted September 2, 2008 We were on the Fascination this winter and they had them but when I pressed for more info I learned that they couldn't be combined with the military discount :( Ah, you're right. They did mention it's combined with all offers and discounts, except the military discount. Since I don't qualify for that, it didn't stick in my memory. ron57nie Posted September 3, 2008 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2008 Where was the station, was it open often or mentioned in the Capers? Were they only good for new cruises not yet booked? I have several cruises lined up but already have payed the deposits, but it sounds like a good plan.
kujobie Posted September 3, 2008 #7 Share Posted September 3, 2008 That's a great deal. I hope they have them on all the ships.. Anyone know if they can be used on a current booking that is not yet paid in full? My guess is no..
NCTribeFan Posted September 3, 2008 #8 Share Posted September 3, 2008 It has been discussed a couple of times in the past and appears to be in "trial" mode now. I read about it here before I sailed on Miracle last December, and was hoping to book my May 2008 cruise while onboard to take advantage, but it wasn't available. If it was available on Glory in May, I never heard anything about it and didn't see anything, anywhere, discussing the option, so I don't think it was available there. Of course, I could have simply missed it. I thought it was Valor, Liberty, Conquest, maybe Legend? They have them on the Fascination? Excellent! Middleager Posted September 3, 2008 Author #9 Share Posted September 3, 2008 The way the certificate works is you still have to book a cruise the old way (thru Carnival or your TA), then send in the certificate. They'll deduct $100 from your final payment balance, and put on the OBC. Good question on whether it can apply to a cruise already booked. There is a date on the certificate. So would they disallow the certificate if it's dated after you already booked the cruise? Maybe they will. But if the final payment is already made, they might not accept it and refund you $100. The station was on deck 5, outside of the casino. It was only manned while the ship is at sea (just like the shops and casino, cannot open while in a port).
