Lois

Its really addicting for sure.

my problem is I keep looking for the best deals and soon as I find one that looks good lo an behold I find a better deal.

the 10 day princess cruise was the same price as the 14 day trans atlantic on the Millie. we really enjoyed the Trans Atlantic last year, lots of sea days and some great lectures and activities. plus we love barcelona.

of course there is the Air cost. None with the princess cruise but marti and I have enough Delta skymiles for free r/t to euorope and back, but I will have to see tomorrow if I can use them at that time..

come on kid, we will have a suite and you could be the 3rd person for about $700.00.

Oh my Phil....thanks for the offer..but what is the saying about being too close for comfort or something like that..... .
Or company breeds contempt....now I don't think that one would happen but...I do know Marti just wants that suite for 2...and she isn't leaving you home

Phil,

I have a question for you on that Delta FF award. We are on the Galaxy in September Rome-Baltimore and when I was getting my award tickets, they told me it was the same price one way or round trip and I couldn't use the "return" part for a Baltimore-Atlanta because it wasn't international(as if I would use that many miles for that flight).

What are you going to do with the second leg of the ticket?

I decided to let Delta "force" us to take an eastbound T/A in spring of 2005 and use the ticket to come home from that. Delta will let you make the reservation outbound with an open return so I booked Atlanta to Rome with an open return out of Barcelona because I think we would cruise to Barcelona in 2005. Even if we went to Rome or Dover or Harwich, it would only cost $100 to change cities. That way, we get two cruises for one award ticket (plus Balt to Atlanta and Atlanta to Ft Laud, but those are pretty cheap).

Do you have another strategy that I should consider? I'm always looking for smart ways to use miles.

you are probably more heads up on this than I am.

I have had a hell of time useing my miles period. tried to use them last year for the same trans atlantic, no go. it wasn' a big deal because celebrity gave us air r/t Sacremento to barcelona, Ft lauderdale to Sac for $300.00.

i understand the Ft lauderdale leg will not be considerd International, but won't I be able to use my miles one way to barcelona and one way domestic back to sac?

Good for you Phil and Marty.

Lois, You should wait until you are on the Horizon to book because you will get a credit for booking on board. Ours is $200. but that's probably because it's two bookings. You can always change the booking when you get home and still keep your credit. $100. buys alot of martinis.

Sorry, It's me, Brigitte.

Phil,

The way they explained it to me was that a ticket for a US to Europe award had to have a European city in each segment, although it could be different. For example, the ticket I had issued was for Atlanta to Rome and Barcelona to Atlanta. Perfectly legal and I even have an open return date because all I know for sure is that it will be more than 331 days out and you can't reserve flights any sooner than that.

I'd be intersted in what Delta tells you. Although, to tell the truth, I'm pretty happy with the outcome. Even if I could have used it ATL-FCO and BWI-ATL, that's a lot of miles for a 2-hour flight home. Besides, we are now going to get two really nice cruises for one award ticket. Care to join us eastbound? We think we're going to take the Millennium, but are anxiously waiting for the itineraries to choose. (Not to mention waiting to see if they can really fix those @$#& pods.)

Good luck.

hi all.........phil, were you by any chance booked on the October 2nd cruise of the Sapphire for all of the 2 DAYS? It is going to be a winner but I guess if we were able to do a crossing we would do the same...of course my DW AkaWanda will not fly if the flight is over an hour which would make things difficult.

Lois, you have an invite and you are not taking phil up because of the fear of being to close for comfort? The expression is: company is like fish, after three days they both start to smell....but as you will all be on the ocean that would not be a problem

well, I talked to delta and some good news and some bad. yes I can use my miles Sacremento to Barcelona and return ft lauderdale to Sac.

The bad news is, no space getting out of ft Lauderdale within 5 days of arriving there.
So If i use my miles 1 way to barcelona it counts as r/t and i wpuld have to purchase tickets on another airline to enable to get home.

so there you go, thwarted again. at this point Iam undecided on what to do.

Cat, maybe I will rebook the oct 2nd Saphire

Phil,

Don't give up so easily. What about trying to get a flight from West Palm Beach or Miami?

Still, I'm surprised at the answer, but happy for you. I also tried this on a cruise from Hawaii to Vancouver. Delta would not let me return from Vancouver because I had a "domestic" award. Never mind that the miles needed to go to Hawaii were more than those to go r/t to Vancouver.

Or you could try the Galaxy in September from Rome to Baltimore. I know for a fact that at least two really nice people are that one.

Good luck whichever way you decide to go.
