Will rccl be a good fit?

We are happy with Holland America...especially atmosphere and size of ships......but rccl departs Galvaston which would save a lot of $$ in airfare. A concern is the large size of the ships and the lines and wait times for various things. Also we are not athletic ..and do not enjoy physical activities. Are there quiet places and things to enjoy?

Thanks

Marcia

Voyager carries a lot of people, but the space to passenger ratio is also large, so there's lots of room for all those people to spread out. Unless you are going during spring break, lines shouldn't be an issue. We've never felt crowded or had problems finding a table in the theater or buffet area, or with the elevators on a Voyager-class ship because it is more than large enough for the number of people it holds. We aren't athletic either, but we enjoy watching the ice show and other people on the rock wall, etc. The promenade is a nice place to people-watch, and there are many quiet areas such as the deck 4 outdoor promenade, and the library. During the day, the Viking Crown lounge is an excellent and peaceful place with an amazing view. There are lots of un-athletic activites too, like scrapbooking class, trivia, name that tune, learn to fold napkins, etc, that are fun too. The production shows and other nighttime entertainment are very good.

Give RCI a try - I don't think you'll be disappointed because it's the type of ship where you can be as active, or as reclusive, as you wish. The atmosphere might be a little different than HAL, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

We are not athletic people - and there are some cruises (like the one on the Mariner) where we didn't go to the pool. There was still a ton of things to do on the ship.

There are the activities and shows like the previous poster mentioned, plus the standard bingo and casino. There was also multiple music venues - piano melodies, latin, ballroom, etc that played each night in a different lounge.

We also had a nice time sitting in the Promenade Cafe, talking, and watching the other passengers. Since it never closes its also a good place to get a snack at 1am

We love RCCL and HAL equally. Each line has their own little perks. The first time we went on the Voyager we found ourselves missing HAL, but after going back to HAL we found we missed some of the things on RCCL.

The main differences for us are on HAL, we love the promenade deck with those awesome chairs, I just don't find it as inviting on RCCL.. same thing with the pool deck.

But on RCCL the Royal Promenade is really nice and the Cafe promenade is great and some of the other rooms like the dining room and theater are just so grand beautiful.

We can transition easily now between both lines and can appreciate the best of both.

I say go for it!
