Hotel in FLL

We have sailed out of ft lauderdale the past 2 "spring breaks" and we have actually gone down for 3-4 days prior to the cruise and stayed over at the beach. Yankee Trader which is being remodeled....and the holiday inn....anyways next year we are going down just one night before and staying a few days afterwards so we have elected to stay near the airport/cruiseport.....for the reason of the "free" shuttle service. I figure it will save us quite a bit of $ ....I really can't remember the cost but I know it was up there for the 5 of us to catch a shuttle to a hotel on the beach then back to the cruise port and this next year the DD is taking a friend along!!! Any little bit saved counts!! :) We have reservations at the Courtyard Mariott....the only thing I am worried about is that i have been reading on these threads is that there is not really too much around there?????
