Did you know that there are two? There is one in Quincy Market that is set up like the inside of the bar on TV. There is a nice gift shop down below the bar. Then there is the one with the awning and covered sidewalk on the outside of the bar that is actually the picture they use on TV for the outside of the bar.

I can't really tell you how far either one is from the pier though. The one at Quincy Market is at Old Town Trolley stop #1, kind of across from the aquarium and Imax. I don't remember the Old Town Trolley stop number that is closest to the original bar with the awning and covered sidewalk.

Neither of them are within walking distance of the pier. In fact, there really isn't anything of intersest near the pier. A cab ride to Quincy Market (which would be the closer "Cheers") would run about $15, but would also give you plenty of other options when you get there.

Depending on the traffic it would be 10 to 20 minutes.

The one near Quincy market - is it an operating bar or more like a museum?

The Cheers Bar in Quincy Market is a replica of the Cheers show, a museum and of course, a gift shop. It is a tourist attraction mainly, set up to look like the set of the Cheers show. It is a working bar/restaurant too with casual food options.

 

The one on Beacon Street (the original) is the Bull & Finch Pub. They used the outside of this bar for the shots of the Cheers bar on the show.

Both are too far from the Black Falcon Pier to walk. A taxi, hop on/hop off bus, or the mass transit "T" would be options for getting around. Google any of these for more information. :)

Having been to them both, I'd avoid the Bull & Finch. Small. Go to Quincy Market. Lots to see & do in addition to Cheers. Stores, restaurants, outside dining. Love it!

The one on Beacon street has charm and is near Charles Street, the Boston Public Garden and you can walk from here to Quincy Market. i lvoe walking Boston.

Cheers bar lays off fabled bartender

"For nearly 35 years, or almost half of his life, Doyle has been the smiling face behind the bar at Cheers - the Beacon Hill pub that inspired the TV show with the same name in the early 1980s. As one of Boston's last fabled bartenders, he served drinks and advice for five decades. During that time, his charitable deeds became the stuff of legend. Along the way he got to know thousands, introduced dozens of singles who would eventually marry, and held numerous fund-raisers that attracted everybody from the glitterati to the near-homeless."
