cigloo Posted September 18, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2008 hello all. We are sailing in two days to Alaska on Oosterdam and wanted to know if we can wear jeans on board the ship during our sea days? What about shorts for breakfast/lunch in dining room? RuthC Posted September 18, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2008 It's getting kind of cold in Alaska by now. You might want to re-think that "shorts" thing.
gordons4 Posted September 18, 2008 #4 Share Posted September 18, 2008 Jeans are a staple on Alaska cruises. And I agree--you might want to rethink the shorts thing. We even had people wearing shorts on Hubbard Glacier day  Of course, they didn't stay out on the deck for more than a couple of minutes. Rare Roz Posted September 18, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2008 I've found jeans to have some drawbacks in Alaska. The weather tends to be "moist", and when jeans get wet, they dry slowly. They're also heavy to pack, and take up a lot of space in your luggage. I brought water resistant pants with me made of spun polyester, and found them to be more practical and warmer than jeans. That said, you won't be thrown overboard for wearing jeans during the day. Roz
St. Louis Sal Posted September 19, 2008 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2008 Just talked to a lady in Juneau Tuesday and she said "think warm socks and fleece!" St. Louis Sal
Assateague Island Princes Posted September 19, 2008 #7 Share Posted September 19, 2008 Absolutely - go for it! Jeans seemed to be the wardrobe of choice during the day.
Toley Posted September 19, 2008 #8 Share Posted September 19, 2008 We just returned from a great cruise on the Oosterdam. Jeans are fine during the day. Be sure you pack rain gear and warm clothes. Most of our cruise was gray and sometimes rain or drizzle. We were really glad we had gloves and coats (or fleece) with hoods too. It was cold, windy and raw at Hubbard Glacier, but we didn't want to miss a minute of glacier calving. Have a great time.
ma080448 Posted September 19, 2008 #9 Share Posted September 19, 2008 We also just returned from AK on Saturday. The "O" was great. I wore jeans the entire time we were on the ship. The weather was cool and raining. We had a great time and watching the Hubbard Glacier calving was something you hear about.....but to see it..... Have a great time.
