Bilyeu5 Posted September 20, 2008 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2008 One cruise option we're considering for Thanksgiving is on the Gate 1 Symphony, which does not have an elevator. I realize there aren't many decks (3 or 4), but what about the distance between each deck? We've been on large cruise ships and I'm OK with 1..or maybe 2..flights of stairs. The river ships look so flat, though, that I'm thinking (hoping!) maybe there aren't all that many stairs between decks. We are in our 60's. No real infirmities...just kinda slow. Trying to decide if lack of elevator is a major concern, or just a slight inconvenience. Thanks for your views.
guestyguestyguesty Posted September 21, 2008 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2008 On the Symphony stay on 'A' deck and the only stairs are to the sun deck one flight up. 'A' deck is the lounge and the dining room also. 'A' deck is where you embark/disembark also.
paul929207 Posted September 21, 2008 #3 Share Posted September 21, 2008 A flight of stairs n a ship is about the same as in a multi-story house.

lobsterlover Posted September 21, 2008 #5 Share Posted September 21, 2008 I have some problems with knees and legs, but never found the average riverboat stairs a problem. However, I had a lot of difficulty on the cruise on the Yangtze river.....5 decks and no elevator. Knees became painful enough for me to seek out acupuncture on the ship. L.L.
