jlajr Posted June 12, 2015 #3701 Share Posted June 12, 2015 (edited) Anyone just take a cruise because you have the time off of work and the price is right but you really have no interest in the ports?Rccl and NCL both have Bahamas 7 days under 950, but I have been to the Bahamas more than once. One cruise is 6/26 the other 8/15. Maybe do one and do a land trip to Toronto or someplace While I usually do not have any particular interest in specific ports, the overall itinerary is a significant factor in my decision. Meaning, I likely would not go on a cruise in northern Europe in late November, but I did go to the Canary Islands/Morocco in late November. Although for something like $40-50/night solo, I might even consider northern Europe in late November - and once onboard, never step outside. :) Edited June 12, 2015 by jlajr
jlajr Posted June 12, 2015 #3702 Share Posted June 12, 2015 My hubby works for the US Dept. of Defense, so I'm able to get some insider info (don't tell him I told you :o) and there's no way in hell he'd let me go anywhere to/in the Middle East nowadays, whether on a cruise or otherwise. And our relationship is NOT the traditional marriage...meaning, neither one of us ever tells the other they're not allowed/can't/forbidden to do something. So, if he's willing to forbid me going there, I KNOW that it's a serious risk and I'd not go as, #1 an American, #2 an American woman, and #3 and American woman traveling solo! Just my educated two-cents worth. And if I worked for a defense ministry, I might also have insider info that might scare me away from travelling to the US, Europe, Asia, and so on. Hell, if I based my vacation decisions just on news headlines, I'd probably never leave home. :) Point is, there are risks everywhere, even in the US, and even without ever leaving home. You are absolutely right. I live close to Washington, DC and I avoid the large free events. Too much crime.

Sweet deal! Wow, great deal! Can you share tbe cruiseline, ship and date? This is probably either a casino deal or VIFP deal from Carnival so not offered to the general public. Last October I also was offered a free cruise from New York to San Juan on the Carnival Splendor. Just had to pay taxes and also got OBC. I think it was just offered to Diamonds. Kruuuuzin Posted June 12, 2015 #3708 Share Posted June 12, 2015 It's not a casino deal. Just a mailing I got. It's Carnival Dream Jan 3, 2016. I thought it was just a dream at first.

RandoCalrissian Posted June 13, 2015 #3711 Share Posted June 13, 2015 Norwegian Sun 14 day B2B roundtrip Vancouver - Anchorage - Vancouver leaving in two weeks (June 22) for $750 fare + tax + tips = $1320 total. About $50 more for oceanview. Can also do half the cruise for half the price (fare a little higher going north, tax a little lower). Came pretty close to the $50 / day base fare, so thought it was worth mentioning. Air kills it for me, but if you live nearby, might be interesting. scrim67 Posted June 13, 2015 #3712 Share Posted June 13, 2015 With NCL the solo in an inside can be cheaper than the studio so you have to be carefull searching. Very true. As a solo on NCL there have been even times where a balcony solo was less than a studio It's all about supply and demand

Zippeedee Posted June 14, 2015 #3720 Share Posted June 14, 2015 I've been lurking here for awhile and finally found a solo to book. There is no single supplement for some categories on the two late August NCL Gem cruises out of NYC. I just booked a balcony mini suite for less than an inside on the Dawn. $1354 plus taxes and free UDP, UBP or shore Ex credit. I used a TA I found on the cruise critic homepage. Thanks everyone here for the information and encouragement. I can't wait!
Cairnmom Posted June 15, 2015 #3721 Share Posted June 15, 2015 I booked the Gem. 799 total price with an 125 OBC. 10 days November 23, 2015.

tgmtgm Posted June 16, 2015 #3724 Share Posted June 16, 2015 Just booked the April 10, 2017 Radiance of the Seas 8 night Queensland Australia cruise. (Yes I know- waaay in advance! Lol). Australia has always been on my bucket list of travel, so why not incorporate a cruise as well. Studio insides are running $907 ($50obc from RCCL), insides $1,060 ($100 obc from RCCL), oceanview $1,182 ($100 obc from RCCL), and balcony $1,468 ($100obc from RCCL). All plus $141 port/taxes, single occupancy, and $250 deposit down. I ended up choosing an E3 balcony on the hump, $1,609 all in with $125 additional obc from my TA- $225 total obc. Australian cruises are usually quite expensive to begin with, and with the high cost of airfare to get there, every bit helps in the pricing. :D Tony
1jazzylady Posted June 16, 2015 #3725 Share Posted June 16, 2015 The 14 night one is the Norwegian Sun. There are other discounts like the coral princess but not as good and only for 7 nights.
