Layover in Atlanta in January

I am looking at a flight from Seattle to San Juan with a lay over in Atlanta. What is the weather like in January? Possible long delays? Would I be better off having a lay over in Dallas? Debbie

Atlanta occasionally gets icy weather in January, but not usually. Fog is the main issue there, but that can occur any time of year, not just January.

January this year, we had a layover in Atlanta on our way to Barbados. Atlanta had 2 bad snow storms in the same week. We chose Atlanta because of its milder temps. Ours was one of the few planes that actually made it after a 2 hour wait on the tarmac for de-icing. Very few planes made it. I tell you this to say that weather is very fickle. We actually chose Atlanta over New York, and and JFK had no delays. This is not to discourage you:o . It really is not the norm, but you can never tell. This January may be just the opposite!!

I live in Atlanta for 10 years up until 6 months ago. Even if there is no weather delay, your flight is likely to make lift off 20-30 minutes after the scheduled time. Your best bet is to have a minimum of 2 hours between flights for convenience and getting around the airport.
