Uh Oh a problem booking w/ priceline. Help

I thought I did my research and tried to get a bargain using priceline. Either I made a mistake or priceline wasn't very clear on something.

I bid a couple of times on a 4 star Hotel in Miami. We got the Hilton, I was pleased until I found out that priceline gave us a King bed room. We have 2 adults and a 12, and 14 year old daughters.

I don't understand I don't remember seeing that kind of option. Can someone tell me if this has happen to them. I feel like a idiot. I am not really blaming priceline and I am still happy with the deal on the room.

I did call the hotel and it seems that they can put in a request for 2 double bed room but it is nothing permanent.

Anybody ever had this kind of situation? Just wondering.

Priceline states all over their site that they only guarantee accommodation for two people. Either one double or two twin beds.

One of the basic things about priceline is that you do not use priceline if trying to put more than two people in one room.

In certain cities, Miami Beach included, a room for four people is an upgrade and not a standard room.

From the Priceline website, the last page before hitting "Purchase Room Now" :

"Important Information

All rooms will accommodate up to 2 adults. Requests for bed types (King, Queen, 2 Doubles, etc.) or other special needs (including preferences for smoking or non-smoking rooms) should be requested through your confirmed hotel and cannot be guaranteed.

• Reservation is guaranteed for arrival on the confirmed check-in date only. If you do not check-in on the first day of your reservation and you do not alert the hotel in advance, the remaining portion of your reservation will be canceled and you will not be entitled to a refund.

• If priceline accepts your price, priceline will book your reservation in a property with an equal or higher star level than you requested. The hotel that is selected may or may not be one that you have seen during a hotel search on priceline. Priceline will immediately charge your credit card the total cost of your stay. Rooms purchased through priceline can not be cancelled, changed or transferred and refunds are not allowed. If your offer is not accepted, your credit card will not be charged.

• The reservation holder must present a valid photo ID and credit card at check-in. The credit card is required for any additional hotel specific service fees or incidental charges or fees that may be charged by the hotel to the customer at checkout. These charges may be mandatory (e.g., resort fees) or optional (parking, phone calls or minibar charges) and are not included in your offer price.

• Hotel rooms purchased through priceline are not eligible for frequent traveler points, upgrades, vouchers, or other discounts and incentives.

Notice that you had to initial this before you could go any farther, which means you initialed it, but did not read it.

I travel with two teens also. For this reason we use hotwire much more often than priceline because it allows us to included kids in reservation.

That being said, I have used priceline when I am pretty sure of the hotel I will get and that they have many 2 bedded rooms. I always call the hotel and they always say that it is only a request. BUT, I have always been able to get a two bedded room except once when I was given a king with a sofa bed.

You are lucky because Hiltons have lots of two bedded rooms so I'm sure they will accomodate you. If you had booked in South Beach you could be out of luck as many of the hotels have small rooms with one bed.

Be positive, smile at the front desk, be very polite but firm that the children need a bed. Worst case senario, kids sleep on the floor. I bet they are so excited to be going on a cruise the next day they wouldn't even mind. :)

I guess I made a mistake. Yep, my kids are really excited about the cruise. If I remember correctly it was late when I was booking with priceline. So I probably scanned over the fine print. Which was my mistake. If it works out where we can get a sofa bed too that would be nice. I did call the hotel and explain my mistake however we have to wait until we arrive that day and see what will happen..

Don't get me wrong I do like priceline, I just need to be a little more careful and read all the fine print.

Thanks so much.:)

Send an email to the Hilton about a week before again requesting that the bedding include 2 doubles or queens. Then... call direct early the day you are arriving to ask again for a room with the correct bedding.

But you are right in that it is only a request. But I'm sure with those reminder requests, it'll be more likely.

We've used Priceline a few times, and there are three of us. We've never had a problem. You've done all you can by calling the hotel. If worse comes to worst and you're stuck with the King room... how close is your family? Once on a road trip, weather forced us off the road and the only room we could get was a king - and four adults shared it without anyone falling out or waking up with a cramp - and my husband and I are not exactly tiny people. I've always arrived at the hotels we've booked through Priceline ready to sleep three to a bed, also. Goodness knows we do it now and again anyway if 'someone' has a nightmare... :)

If this is the Downtown Hilton there are 527 rooms, lots with two queen beds. Stay optimistic, I'm sure it will be fine. I have bid on Sheraton, Hilton and Marriott using priceline and have always been given a choice of bedding when I checked in. In February I got the Courtyard Marriott in FLL and was a bit nervous for the same reason as you. Again, I had no problem requesting a room with two beds.

Once you are staying in this beautiful hotel you won't think of it as a mistake but as a real bargain.:) Remember if they say they have no rooms with two beds ask for a bed and a sofa bed. If that fails, ask for cots.

I've used Priceline in the past and the hotels have luckily been able to get me two doubles . If possible, an earlier check in may also allow more of a chance to get the room type you prefer.

Looking at the website for the Hilton downtown in Miami, it looks like a sofabed is in the standard King room. You can call the hotel to confirm that.

In any event, enjoy your cruise!
