ABC Cruisers Posted October 30, 2008 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2008 We are sailing on the Gem and have upgraded from a penthouse suite to a courtyard villa. We see in NCL's description we can order from any restaurant and have the meals brought to the villa - do we still pay the restaurant surcharge for these meals? What other perks can we look forward to besides the private deck and pool?

You can also have breakfast and lunch from Cagney's served there in the courtyard at their little tables. All the other perks are the same as any suite. Ericktina Posted October 30, 2008 #3 Share Posted October 30, 2008 If you have sailed in an AB penthouse, the cabin is an AB--with access to the courtyard. Other than the access to the courtyard, all amenities and services are the same...you can have Cagney's breakfast (wonderful menu--food very good) and lunch in your cabin or in the Courtyard without charge, or you can just go to Cagney's for those meals--only for penthouse passengers. All other surcharge restaurants would charge if you were served dinner in the cabin or Courtyard. There is a very nice Concierge lounge way up one flight from the elevator area which is very quiet and has a nice view... The pool is very small if that is a concern, and designed to be a lap pool if you turn on the jets so you can swim against the water. There is a retracting sunroof when in warm climates, and lots of comfy curtained "mattress" chairs. Also a large hot tub. There is always a light snack (morning pastries, afternoon cookies) set out with tea coffee and juices except late at night. The Courtyard is designed to be exclusive-- you have to put your key card in a slot in the elevators to get there. Have a great cruise!!

The Gem, Jade, and Pearl don't have the Deck 15 Concierge Lounge. NCL used that space for the Deluxe Owner's Suites (one on the Jade and two on the other two). The Star Bar (which is also the "entrance" to the Cagney's small room used for suite breakfast and lunch) is used as the Concierge Lounge during the day and open to general use at night (at least, it was). We loved the whole Courtyard experience, even without the dedicated Deck 15 Concierge Lounge. beachchick
ABC Cruisers Posted October 31, 2008 Author #5 Share Posted October 31, 2008 Thanks everyone for responding. We leave tonight for Barcelona and are really looking forward to it. The weather isn't looking the best, so the retractable roof will be nice. We will see if the extra $$$ was worth it to upgrade from our penthouse to the villa.
