Food Question

I haven't sailed on Princess for 2 years. Dining room food was still good than.

Just sailed another Cruise Line and the dining room food was never hot and

bad. They were fighting the norvo virius, so they were short staff in dining

rooms. We ate in their other -extra fee- restaurants which were good. Their

buffet had Princess beat. So, is dining room food still good? Thanks.

I think the DR food on Princess is still good, although all the lines seem to have cut back somewhat in the past couple years. We have sailed Crown Princess and the NCL Gem within the past year, and in our opinion, the food in the main DRs was much better on Princess. We especially enjoy the seafood entrees on Princess ---- NCL couldn't come close--- but the choices also seemed better. We had Alaskan king crab legs and several shrimp dishes on Princess, on NCL we had to go to the surcharge restaurants for the fancier items.

In the past 11 months, we have spent 58 days on Princess ships. The food has been very good.

It was the best on the Royal Princess (24 days)

The worst (but not bad) on the Tahitian Princess (14 days)

..and between the two on the Emerald, but with considerably more choice (20 days)

Food is a hit or miss.

While we still enjoy Princess's food. We have found certain items not as good as it was. It might have to do with their vendors or cutting back on costs.

As for Norovirus -

It just doesn't happen on cruise ships.

Have you heard the news about a school that was stricken with the virus.

http://www.lohud.com/article/2008810310384

325 students & 20 faculty members came down with the virus.

Here's a new study on Norvirus

Study suggests drinking water may be source of winter norovirus outbreaks

Food is about the same from 2 years ago on Princess, but if I'd have to say that it's went down or up, I'd have to still say down just a tad bit. I noticed a few things that weren't as good as they were 2 years ago (lobster way smaller and not very good, cheesecake was not as rich and had a different consistency, fettuchini not as tasty, crab legs smaller and less amount. Princess is still a good value for the money though and I still recommend them.

2 years ago, Princess had one of the best lobster dinners with a very nice size tail. Most all the lines are cutting back on the lobster and giving a tiny mushy rock lobster with maybe a few prawns or scallops and it really isn't as good as it used to be. I had one of the best lobsters ever 2 years ago on Princess. Not that way anymore.

This is a great example of why I wouldn't mind if Princess had to increase their fares a tad....and I don't even eat lobster!!

Some things are just worth it.

I wish I took a photo of the King Crab legs.

It was sickening!

On our Crown cruise they were "THE BEST" Large, succulent, juicy.

On our last cruise, CB 8\6 they didn't look like crab.

I was extremely disappointed!!!

Sorry I ordered them. :(..

What was served were so tiny, we thought they were toothpicks.

Here's an excellent picture Cruisin42 took.

Legs smaller then a cigarette.

Sad isn't it?

We were on the Grand last month, our first Princess cruise. Lobster was just fine. However, the "jumbo" shrimp for the surf n' turf had a lot to be desired. I have to convince myself the menu had a "typo" for jumbo. Prime Rib tough (all around the table) Filet tastless. The beef we had in the steakhouse was superb!

I would say the food in general was good though.

wow! What a change! We leave next weekend for our 10 day caribbean cruise and I am really looking forward to the lobster, but not if it looks much like the last picture! :-(

Trust me, it does. It looks just like the last picture. It's not good at all. I suggest ordering one of the other nice dishes.

2 years ago the crab legs were larger and great and you got a lot of them. Now they are so tiny, you have to order 3 plates. They still taste good though.

Now mine recently still looked like the first photo not the 2nd one. However, they were smaller than that and less of them. What I recently had didn't even come close to resembling the 2nd photo at all.

Most of time the food was over cooked. I was with a group of 75 and none of us really cared for it and the buffet was even worse. On the other hand the pizza was great and so was the food from room service.
