Hi Everyone!

We are a gay couple, ages 30 & 34 sailing on the Seabourn Pride from Bridgetown, Barbados to Fort Lauderdale on 12/12. Will any other "family" be on board? We look forward to meeting any of you that may be joining us!

Tony and Brian,

Sorry my partner and I will be on the November 28th sailing of the Pride.

You will have a great time and I am sure you will not be the only gay couple on board. If you are no need to worry everyone is so friendly you will feel right at home.

Also saw your port on the Seabourn board and you will love the beach BBQ on Prickley Pear. Try the banana boat you will love it.

Have your picture taken with the cute waiters serving the chanmpagne and caviar in the surf.

Please post a review when you get back. I always llike to read reviews from first time Seabourn sailors.

Prepare to be spoiled.

Bon Voyage.

Hey Mcboo!

We had an AMAZING time! Everything about our trip was perfect. If you read my post on the Seabourn board, you'll see that a lot of the passengers didn't know what to make of us (people were asking friends of ours if we were crew, if we worked at Blue Lagoon, or if we were the entertainment!). I guess being a gay couple in our 30's on a ship with a much more heterosexual and older demographic is not something a lot of repeat passengers see very often.

Nonetheless, we met some really great people on board (especially Martha!) who made us feel right at home. I have attached a picture of the two of us at The Baths in Virgin Gorda. We're hooked and will definitely sail on Seabourn again. I will post a longer trip report on the Seabourn board soon. Have a Happy Holiday!

Tony,

Glad to hear you and Brian had a great time. I knew you would.

Our November 28th sailing on the Pride had 8 or 9 gay couples on board and a fairly young crowd. Did you get to experience Nelson's mojitos at the skybar?

We have always found the staff and fellow Seabourn guest to be very welcoming to everyone.

Was Carl one of the staff serving caviar in the surf?

Were Tony, Leanne and Chad in the dining room?

I've been considering Seabourn for a while and had a couple questions...

Is one of their ships better than others?

I'd be travelling single and am enjoying it less and less. I hate being the tird-wheel. Do they have any singles travelling or are we a rarity? Does the staff/crew try too hard to make sure you're having fun (no - I'm not talking sex)? (I hate being pitied  )

Are any of their cruises casualwear-only?

Inquiring minds want to know... :D

Phil,

All the ships are the same with a few very minor exceptions. You would not be the only single on board by any means. The staff and crew are wonderful. You will never be able to dine alone unless you really want to. Seabourn guest are the friendliest people around. You will meet plenty of new people from day one and because of the size of the ships you will get to meet just about everyone.

Guest, staff and crew will go out of there way to ensure that you enjoy your Seabourn experience without being intrusive. (No pity party here).

No all casual sailings however. A seven day sailing has 2 formal nights. You can dine semi-formal (jacket required) in the Veranda restaurant if you dont want to were the tux or dark suit. (Most men wear tuxes). Or you can always dine in-suite course by course from the restaurant menu.

You should give it a try. If you enjoy the finer things in life without a lot of attitude Seabourn will be just right for you. If you need to be around 2000 of your newest friends and need a bingo game every hour and umbrella drinks in souvenir glasses that you pay a fortune for Seabourn would not be for you.

Hope this helps .

Oh, I don't know - no umbrella-drinks  - I have this tacky side that MUST be placated from time to time ;) . Guess I could bring my own. They go so well with my pink flamingo shirts (tucked in, of course) and black knee-socks with sandals, straw boater hat, and baggy shorts pulled above my navel. And that's on formal nights. :D

Serially... I'm interested in trying one of their transatlantics and am a little concerned about boredom during the day.

Thanks for the info... :)

Phil,

Transatlantics have a quieter tone to them there are lectures and of course my favorite team trivia. You will not beleive how intense it gets. You will also have the small casino and shows and that wonderful food and booze.

mcboo

P.S. They could probably find an umbrella for your drinks if you wanted one.

Don't forget the suspenders with those shorts and flamingo shirts.:eek:

Hey Mcboo!

We didn't get to try one of Nelson's Mojitos as mint leaves were in short supply... He does make a mean Bloody Mary and Planter's Punch however! Karl (while in my opinion, the cutest guy on board - that guy's got a smile and personality for days!) :D was not serving Caviar in the surf. We had Michael (the bar manager) and Ross. :)

Lee Ann was by far our favorite server on board. She worked her tail off and was always super nice to us. We made sure we let her know how much of an impact she had on our trip. We really liked Tony alot too... In fact, he was the only crew member to call me by name the entire time. And as far as the bar staff goes, Amanda was AWESOME. One of the best bartenders we ever sailed with. Thomas, the cocktail waiter was reall good (and cute) too. :D Our cabin steward - Andrea, was OUTSTANDING. Super-efficient and very friendly.

Team trivia was cut-throat! We were part of the Bar Team, and we came in second place during our trip. We were basically robbed on a bogus question! We did win a bookmark for saying that Captain TT Sorensen was the explorer who discovered something a long time ago... :D

Tony,

We too had a bogus trivia questions and challenged it. We looked it up on the internet after the fact. We then printed the information and gave it to CD Eric DeGrey. We asked foe the 1000 points we lost and 1000 for the trouble of having to prove it.

He was very accommodating and gave us the 2000 points.

Have to agree with you about Carl. He has the best personality and smile on the ship, and LeAnnn was just a doll.

Tony was always around with a great smile and service.

Our stewardess was Andy from South Africa and she was just great.

Glad you guys had a good time and hope to see you onboard another Seabourn cruise in the future.

What is it with these bogus trivia questions?? We were lucky enough to be crowned first place after-the-fact and I just received the coveted Seabourn rosewood and leather box in the mail!!

Thulex, you definately ought to try a crossing! There are always ALOT of friendly, gay men on board! Just booked the Legend crossing in march with another gay couple!

In my opinion it seems like the Legend is the more "rowdy" ship, if thats possible, the Pride is a more sophisticated crowd, and the Spirit is a well heeled "older" crowd. Any thoughts on this McBoo?

Dan,

Rowdy is a relative term. Adventureous and free-spirited may be a better fit.

Do you really feel there is that much of a difference?

We love the Pride. As with any sailing on the triplets it is your fellow guest and the itinerary that makes or breaks(not really possible) it.

We had a wonderful sailing on Nov. 28th on the Pride 8 or 9 other gay couples and a great bunch of straight couples and singles.

Your name actually came up when Donna (cruisecrazyone) and I were chatting at the skybar. She and her husband are great people. You must not have been too rowdy because you got a glowing review.

Phil,

As you can see you really should give Seabourn a try. Once you do you will be hooked.

Man, you guys are sooooo lucky. Seabourn looks wonderful. However, since we are taking our first cruise, my boyfriend recommended we take a less expensive cruise to make sure we actually like cruising. Going on Celebrity Constellation / Southern Caribbean. Ironically, the cruise that boards right after we disembark is the Atlantis cruise.

I did order the literature and DVD from Seabourn and showed it to my BF. He agrees it looks fantastic. He was afraid it would be stodgy, but I think the DVD helped. Maybe we'll try one of their less expensive Caribbean cruises March 2006.

Thanks guys.

Darrencantwait,

Do not wait. Book any Seabourn sailing you can. You will not beleive how well you will be pampered. If you like all-suites outside, gourmet food, all-inclusive including liquor and tips, you may be very surprised at how cost effective a Seabourn cruise can be.

You will thoroughly enjoy any Seabourn Cruise you take. We have sailed with Seabourn 7 times and never have felt out of place or shunned by the crew or fellow passengers. I was also furtunate enough to work for Seabourn in the San Francisco office so I know what the philosophy of Seabourn happens to be.

Unfortunately my lover and I will not be joining you on this cruise however, we are sailing on March 5, 2006 - Auckland to Cairns. Would love to find out if anyone is sailing on this cruise with us.
