Lushpuppy Posted November 6, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2008 Hi. We just moved my elderly mother in laws cabin to a promenade cabin on deck 7. Originally she was nearby to our suite so could have popped out on to our balcony to have a cigarette. (sorry on explorer!) Can you please tell me where her nearest access point is to go for a cig? Please, no flaming, she is 79 very fit and healthy but likes her cigs!:) Is there a bar nearby that is a smoking bar? I am thinking of her last thiing at night etc not having to wander up to upper decks???? Wheres her nearest point? We did ask her whch cabin she would prefer and she feels she would like the "people watching" in a promenade cabin so this is why we moved her. Anyone know? Many thanks! marle7 Posted November 6, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 6, 2008 I would imagine the pub on the Royal Promenade, would be the nearest. The last time I was on Explorer, a year and a half ago, the promenade was smoke free. There isn't a really close spot other than outside as far as I can see, in reviewing the deck plans. Lushpuppy Posted November 6, 2008 Author #7 Share Posted November 6, 2008 I would imagine the pub on the Royal Promenade, would be the nearest. Thank you. I didnt realise there were pubs on the Royal Promenade in which one could smoke. If there is, then she will happily wander in there. I thought the RP was totally smoke free. All new to us, first time cruising with RCI so never ever seen a RP! Looking forward to it. We understand there are both smoking and non smoking lounges on RCI, thats fine with us, just trying to make sure our lovely MIL is safe and happy. She is a star! She will easily make friends on board but we dont want her wandering around the top deck late at night! More likely we might have to fetch her out of the disco!:D She has been known before to tell us she has gone to bed, and later we find her in the casino! If anyone knows names of smoking lounges on explorer that would be great. Also, is there an outer deck other than the very top decks? Some ships have promenade decks as such??? You know, somewhere one can slip outside?? Thank you!

To the best of my rememberance and they may have changed this, inside places to smoke included the Casino, The Viking Crown at the bar, part of the disco and the schooner bar, although there was talk of taking the Schooner bar away as a smoking bar. I can never remember which side, port or starboard, but most decks other than ones that are all cabins, usually have a outer deck that you can slip out on and enjoy a quick one. marle7 Posted November 6, 2008 #10 Share Posted November 6, 2008 The Connoisseur's club on deck 5 may still be available for cigar and cigarette smokers, and of course, on formal nights, there is usually no smoking in the casino.

If she's very fit and healthy, she should be able to get to any of the smoking areas pretty easily. The simplest would probably be to just go to the smoking side of Deck 10. Poohb Posted November 6, 2008 #12 Share Posted November 6, 2008 The Connoisseur Club on 5 is to the right as you go into the Maharaja. I agree that PEGLEG was out of line; there was absolutely no good reason for that unhelpful, self serving comment. Enjoy your cruise & family. Lushpuppy Posted November 6, 2008 Author #13 Share Posted November 6, 2008 Thanks all. Can you smoke in the maharaja?? No matter what, it looks like she wont have to wander too far! We dont want her wandering around on upper decks late at night, although she is fit and healthy, she is 79..and we take full responsibility for her whilst on board. Dont want her peering overboard late at night:eek: Just want to make sure she is comfortable with the new arrangement. Originally she was in an inside opposite our suite, and we intended to just give her our key to use our balcony. I am sure all will be fine. Thank you so much to those who helped. HI marle.,,send me an email I have lost your address!!:)

piercetc4 Posted November 6, 2008 #18 Share Posted November 6, 2008 there is a thread called all things explorer of the seas- maybe you could ask your question there to get more info about the current places available to smoke on that ship- ?- i know we have been in schooner bars that were all nonsmoking and then the next ship let you smoke in schooner...........and last jan. i could smoke in the pub on nos on r.p. but things change fast and that may no longer be the case- when do you sail? also i think deck 5? has doors to outside where your mil may could grab a cig............forget if its port or starboard thats smoking- port = left starboard = right side of the ship
LAKaye Posted November 6, 2008 #19 Share Posted November 6, 2008 I can't wait until people that have absolutely nothing constructive to say regarding the topic of a thread get a clue and keep there opinions to themselves :) It is hopeless! Some people such as Pegleg, are driven to pipe up even though their post in no way helps the OP. It is essential for some of these fellow CC members to opine on every topic. It is tiring. To the OP, I suggest you take advantage of your Concierge. Ask him or her just exactly where are the smoking areas on board on your sailing. Although RCI has generally set rules, and each ship can more or less be counted on to have certain areas available to smokers, I know from experience that changes in captains and hotel directors can affect smoking options. I've sailed on the same ship twice in one year, and the smoking areas had been modified a bit. Have a wonderful trip~~ Leslie
wrp96 Posted November 6, 2008 #20 Share Posted November 6, 2008 It may be easier for her to do down to the promenade deck (deck 4?) to smoke.
BrainChemicals Posted November 6, 2008 #21 Share Posted November 6, 2008 She can go down to the Connoisseur Club on Deck 5 which is a cigar bar of sorts. Loads of people smoke cigarettes in there. It is found forward of the Promenade. Hope this helps you out Lushpuppy, enjoy your cruise.
