Harrison's Cave and Barbados Wildlife Reserve - both places in one day?

We're over in Barbados on 9/12/08 having done the Ocean Yacht Racing before (twice! in one cruise!), we quite like the idea of going to Harrison's Caves and the Barbados Wildlife Reserve. We have read on here that it is quite easy to get a taxi to the caves (and get there before the cruise ship tours!) but then, is it possible to get from the caves to the Wildlife reserve at Farley Hill. Would it be best to just negotiate with a taxi driver at the port? Any ideas or advise please?

Your plan sounds quite feasible.

The Caves and the Wildlife reserve are within about 4-5 miles(?) of ea.other

both of them up in the highlands part of the island.

Have the same taxi driver wait for you til you're done with the Caves

and then go down to the East Coast Road as your route to the Wildlife Reserve

- that way you get to do The Scenic Route as well! :)

You'll get to see a bit of this kinda stuff..

Having just returned from the cruise, we are quite sad to report that Harrison's Cave is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for 'refurbishment works' therefore we didn't make it to the caves or the monkeys, and instead went snorkelling with the turtles.

We are aiming to do this in February 09 when we are in Barbados on a Wednesday ....... :)

Thanks for getting back to us with feedback.

Locals are still figuring out why the Caves close at all during Winter Tourist Season.

Hopefully you'll get your wish-trip when you return in February 2009..

it's quite do-able to hit both Caves and Wildlife Reserve, once you have a taxi.

Forget the local buses for any inland excursions of this sort.

Buses work OK as long as it's anywhere along the South or West Coasts

but not inland

Definately can do both. We did both (along with some other cool stuff) with Glory tours. It was one of our best excursions ever!

We are a group of six young seniors who will be in Barbados in March. (9:00 - 6:00 Celebrity Constellation) We're not really interested in the beach or snorkeling so I am very interested in your excursion with Glory Tours. What did you do/see? How much did it cost? Food/drinks included? How can I contact them?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Here is Glory Tours' contact site:

So far, I still have no luck with getting their e-mail responses :(

By the way, you may want to check Susan's posts from the 'View my guestbook' link via here:

Her comments about 'double charges) made me worry about booking their tours.

Thanks so much for sharing the "View My Guestbook" link with me. Although most posters RAVE about Glory Tours, I have seen several posts about serious billing problems. I am also concerned that they want to be paid upfront, months in advance. At this point, I think we're going to take our chances with a taxi when we arrive in Barbados.
