Evening activities

For those who aren't into the dancing or casino scene, what do you during the evening hours?

 

We sometimes see the show, then maybe see karoake, stroll the ship, etc. We feel at loose ends sometimes and just go back to our cabin to catch a movie. I know its our vacation and we should do what we want, I just sometimes feel strange going back to our cabin at 9 pm.

 

Just wondering what other folks do. Please keep "PG" rated and you know what I mean. ;)

You could stretch out your evening by doing late dining. Some enjoy people watching. Some like to listen to live music in the lounges or atruim.

My husband and I don't enjoy going to the clubs either. On The Liberty, we love to watch the movie under the stars on Lido Deck. We love to eat dinner in the dining room, change into comfortable clothes and settle in lounge chairs. Also, the band that played in the atrium was great. We enjoyed listening to them. The shows were also great.

I am not a nightcub person, but I do visit the casino and leave when my money runs out for the day. They also have entertainment (live band) in the smaller show lounge at the back of the ship (and a dance floor), and if you are on a ship with Seaside Theater, then they have theather under the stars starting at 8pm and usually have two movies 8-10 and 10-midnight on most nights except deck party night. There is also kareoke (sp?) at night as well. The promenade has a performer that is around the casino, so if you just want to listen to live music and a variety, you can plunk yourself down on the promenade outside the casino and enjoy the music....

 

I do hope you have a balcony cabin cuz a OV or inside wouldn't be fun to stay in when you stay in the cabin to watch the movie on the TV....

I have late dining, so there's not a lot of evening time for me to fill. I either go to one of the big shows, catch a lounge act or two, or go to the casino for a while. I'm a morning person, so I don't stay up till the wee hours.

Like a couple of other posters, we have the late seating for dinner, so it isn't too hard to fill the time following dinner.

We do the things already mentioned.

On two cruises I've seen younger people playing a boxed game up on the Lido deck in the evening. So I've been thinking about playing cards or a game and hope others will join in. Card games like Euchre, Pinoccle, Hearts or board games like the trivia ones or scrabble. I've not looked in the card room at night to see what, if anything, was going on, but the Lido deck has more appeal :).

Thanks for all the responses. I'm very much a morning person too and I have been known to prop my eyes open to see a late night comic.

 

We'll have to try more of listening to the music in the atrium... but here's the thing I really like going to my cabin to watch a movie. Am I a dud or what? :p

 

I'm so glad that the Conquest is adding the Theatre under the Stars during its drydock so now we can watch a movie outside of the cabin.

 

What I would really like to do is see if I could gather a group of folks to play cards or something on the Lido deck. I see individual groups doing that but I'm never with a big enough group to pull it off. I think maybe next time I'll crash someone else's group. :p

I have seen people playing cards on every cruise I have taken. You could also mention it on your roll call to see if you can find some potential players before you get on the ship.

On the Spirit they had a card room that was always full of people playing cards. I think it was deck 2 aft across from the karaoke bar. Maybe deck 3 aft. It was an actual card room though and always full. Check out the capers for any activities going on.

I just checked deck plans and it wasn't aft, it was bow on promenade deck and it was called the Monarch card room across from Club Cool where they had karaoke, across from the coffee shop and hop skip & jump from the Pharohs Palace.

We play card games like UNO and rummy. We're planning on bringing the dominos this time and playing Mexican Train. There are 4 of us, but if I were you, I'd look for some others playing and ask to join. The worst they'll say is "no." And you may even make some good friends!

 

There's nothing like a cup of coffee and a lounge chair on deck at night...

 

Or dive into a good book. I like to read in a crowded area of the ship so I can people watch at the same time!

 

There's nothing wrong with going back to your cabin and watching tv. This is your vacation that you worked hard to take--do what makes you happy! Enjoy.

We are morning people :D, and we had the late seating too.

We went to a couple of the shows, we went to the casino, we sat on our balcony and star gazed, and we watched a lot of movies in our cabin.

It was a wonderful, relaxing vacation for both of us :).

i end up here every night, and assuming the player is good - i'd say it's the most fun to be had on the ship in the evening hours...

 

i am NOT a morning person and would shut the place down every night - but even for the early risers in the group - you can always just stop in for a bit before bed :rolleyes:

I've asked for late dining but now wonder if I'll be able to catch the shows? Are there particular shows on the Holiday that I do not want to miss, are they preteen friendly, any idea what time the later shows start? On the cruises where I had early dinner times, it was always a crunch to get back on ship, take showers, and head to dinner, always feeling rushed. On the other hand, there are only two ports on this cruise, one which you have to be back onboard at 4:30 so maybe early dinner would be good for us. Any ideas? thanks, Brenda

I know how you feel. We don't usually do the bar/lounge scene either. We do like to go to the casino some so that does buy us some time. On our last cruise we had a balcony so we spent quiet a bit of time there enjoying the peace and quiet. There is really not much else to do if you don't care for the bars and such in the evenings. :)

DH and I are not big alcohol drinkers, so we eat the late dinner, catch the shows, take a nice walk out on the lido deck, sit in the piano bar and listen to the music while I drink my coke, play in the casino a little.

 

We have a DS and the past couple of years, we've gone on cruises just the two of us, so basically, if we don't like the shows for the night, we just spend time together or people watch.
