Not happy w/ room assignments...I think! HELP!!!!

Life's a Beach!!

Also, looks like these are 8C cabins on the Verandah desk. With the new categories, the only other 8Cs are on the Empress and are not exactly mid ship either -- they are more aft (back). So you may have to change categories to get midship. Or you may have to specifically tell the TA, you don't care if you all are in close proximity. It might also matter how many total are in your party and how many you are trying to put into each room.

Bottom line is that you do need to discuss your concerns with your TA to find out why you ended up with the rooms that you did and what your options are at this time.

Please, all... forgive me for hijacking the thread for a moment...

Hiya, Diana!! Where have you been??? I've missed seeing you on the boards!!

Are ya' goin' to the Meeting of the Minds in KW again this year??

It's been crazy with work since we got back from the Ecstasy the first part of September. I just got back from Meeting of the Minds (it was Oct 30-Nov 2). Mom had surgery to replace her other knee this week (just came home today) and I am travelling to another georgeous Army post for work next week. Oh...and most important -- this week, I booked the Conquest for next October for Mom and I. (She saw the Conquest when we drove into Galveston for the Ecstasy Cruise and thought it was the most beautiful ship she'd ever seen and wanted to know if we could take that one next time. Which was what I'd been planning to talk her into anyway.)

And to get back to the topic, ;), Mom always takes her Rolling Walker with the seat (also called a Rollator) with her for the long hallways. She uses it as necessary on the cruise -- if it's going to be a long walk, she takes it; if it's not too far, she might leave it in the cabin. But she has it if she feels she needs to use it. I leave it up to her and if she gets away from the cabin and thinks she needs it, she finds a place to sit and I'll go get it for her.

Dan we all had to start somewhere. My TA told me on my first booking that the reason we didnt have a cabin was because it was so close to the sailing date and so sold out Carnival had the right to pick our cabins. The word guarantee was never mentioned.

That TA would never have seen another penny of business from me.

"I'd suggest you get a copy of your booking from the TA, the Carnival confirmation copy, not some form the TA makes up. The TA might have booked you in GTY cabins and charged you for regular cabins or the TA might have had GROUP SPACE reserved and booked you that way. Do a dummy booking online and see what the cabins should cost and see what you paid."

This advice I think the OP should follow. Then knowing if the guarantee info was the only omission, the OP could use the TA again or not.

I'm always for the TA, or the independent businessman compared to the faceless corporation.

But, they have to earn new business every time.

Just tonite, Barb and I went out to dinner at a little hole in the wall place we have been to many times before. Didn't realize its been over a year since we went there. The place has changed hands but all seemed the same. Same decor, same menu, [higher prices, but thats everywhere].

I ordered pasta and sausage, capellini instead of spaghetti. She says thats $2.50 extra. I said charge me the $2.50. Now I ask, whats the difference? One is thinner than the other and both are on the menu. She got her $2.50, lost a customer, I won't go back. Had I asked for extra sausage, extra portion, extra anything, by all means, I'm prepared to pay more.

Everybody has to earn the business, every time.

Dan Im not defending the TA, I was defending the OP. I thought you were too harsh/sarcastic with someone just starting off cruising. My comment was we all had to start someone. I know my first booking wasnt perfect either and I paid too much by far.

There is only one cure for that, book cabins as far from the elevators as possible. Oh, wait thats what you don't like.

Next time you are going to spend thousands of dollars, get some idea of what you're doing first, or what's being done to you.

although i love this board sometimes i think it does more harm than good...you are worried about your room assigments when you have never been on a ship....go and have fun, enjoy the food, atmosphere and other wonder of your first time cruise....unless your next to the engine or a room of 3 year old you'll be fine, and im sure your mom will manage...there's always the option of getting a wheelchair from the steward if it too much....Enjoy the magic of the first cruisewithout taking all the wonder out of it

Assuming you booked GTY cabins, there's not much you can do except see if you can pay up to an assigned cabin where you can pick your own room. That's going to be a peak cruise, though, so there's probably not mcuh left.

If you need certain rooms, you shouldn't book GTY.

Don't worry, though. People here get a little obsessive about these things (lord knows I'm as guilty of it as anyone else) but in reality it's not that big of a deal. If you're really worried about your mother having to walk too much, maybe you can get her a wheelchair to use sometimes on the ship.

Exactly. Relax. Have a drink. Have fun.

We sail in exactly 7 days. Everything there will be better than it is right now as I sit at my desk on a rainy, cold day in Chicago.

no kidding,,,we weren't far from the aft elevator, but because of the locations of the restaurant, we often had to walk to the midships or even the forward elevators to get where we wanted to go,,,,,,the fact is you will walk that whole ship no matter WHERE you are,,,,,,,

IMO nobody is far from an elevator,,,,,,,will the elevator you're close to take you where you want to go? THAT is the question,,,you spend 5 days learning to get AROUND a ship, lol

one reason to love the smaller ships :) Holly

I think in addition to the elevators going up and down the ships should invent elevators that go sideways to the front and back of the ship. :D

OP, enjoy your first cruise. You are going to have a blast in whatever cabin you get.

Okay, now I know I'm a total cruise (or vacations in general) geek, and that i know every tiny detail of every booking that I make... But many of my friends, and I'm guessing many newbies, book assigned cabins (NOT guarantees) without really specifying where those cabins should be - and those are the same people who probably don't examine their cabin #'s and then pull out a deck plan to make sure that they are close by (believe it or not, there are some cruisers who have NEVER looked at a deck plan before stepping on board). Many people use TA's with the trust that the TA will find the best possible cabins in their desired price range, and then trust that their TA will have common sense enough to put those cabins close by or together whenever possible. These people are not dummies, they are just trusting of their TA's (or PVP's) and maybe a little unsure of the booking process in general.

I don't want to sound harsh or anything, I just know that we might know stuff or be aware of stuff that the average cruiser is not aware of...

I just got off Triumph, and was in 8327. I really liked the location. There is plenty of access to a variety of elevators. There will always be walking involved, but it really was not that bad.

As far as the noise from the Lido deck. I only really noticed a few times during the lunch and dinner rush. It was not that bad in the early morning or late at night.

Here is my one tip. Triumph is the "You can't get there from here" ship. If you need to do anything on a lower level, then you are best to go to deck 5 to get where you need to go.

Stop by and say Hi to Maja in the Casino bar (she is there at night). She is a doll!! Also, the Tirimisu Martini's in the Wine Bar are FANTASTIC!!!

Sorry I sounded so harsh, It WAS my intention. A cruise is a major purchase in any income bracket. To make any major purchase devoid of knowledge is............................irresponsible[nicest word I could come up with].

You [or at least I] would not buy a $300 washing machine without knowing something, to a lot about it, AND what the competition had to offer. How is a cruise different?

I am pleased to offer advice to a newbie. But when they come on the BB with a complete blank slate it is unlikely that the most caring individual here will be of help. They ask a question and they get 25 or 30 answers. Which means they are now buried in info they have no way to process.

That's way I always say get a brochure, read every page of it. Go to Carnival.com, click all over the site. All at your own pace, then come here and fill in the blanks, armed with some basic knowledge.

Each of us needs to get back to personal responsibility for our own actions.

This completes another long boring, "Sermon on the Mount."

And in my own sarcastic way, I did tell the OP there is nothing wrong with the rooms he got.

 Need help from all you voyagers' date=' as this is our 1st cruise. Traveling the Triumph December 28th. We just received our room assignments. 8202, 8248, 8220 and 8232. I am concerned w/ my mom of a young 75 years having to walk greater distances from these rooms to get anywhere. After reading these boards for months I do recall you all saying it is best to be mid ship and these are in the front. I am also concerned w/ the 8th deck as I don't want to hear the scrapping of chairs and such from above. I am sure we will not be spending a ton of time in our room but just wanted some input from the professional cruisers. What are my chances of requesting and getting a change for our 4 rooms? Not to get picky but would love to have them side by side. Ok...so lots of polite concerns in one post....any suggestions PLEASE HELP!!![/quote']]

we were on Glory in room 8416. Loved the location, and NO NOISE from red sail/lido deck pizzeria. we heard 1 chair on the last day of the cruise. That was it, and we are mid day nap takers.

jerry, how did you find out what is where? When I go to deck plans, it just shows the whole deck but I lose perspective going from deck to deck. I wonder why my PVP would put me in such a noisy place last Jan when there were plenty avail. I am on the Liberty. Are we talking the same ship?
