just back from 2 night inspection of Celebrity Solstice

The Solstice is a beautiful ship. Very long but not as wide as the big RCCL ships. They solved the narrow hallways by putting inlets at the cabin doorways. The stewards can park their carts there so w/c's can get around them. All the accessible rooms have auto doors. They have w/c spots in the front of the theater. They have changed their smoking policy. Smoking is not allowed in the cabins or the balconies. I would have preferred a grand promenade but you can't have everything. The first sailing with paying passengers is just 2 weeks away.

did you happen to notice if w/c spaces are also in the back of the theater? did you have any difficulty in the MDR with a w/c and did someone assist in getting to the table? was there sufficient space at the table for the w/c. any and all info you have is greatly appreciated.

They had moveable chairs in the back of the theater. They were still working on signs .They will have w/c signs in the back. People tend to take those seats even if they don't have a walking disability so you have to get there early. Hopefully they will remove some of the chairs ahead of time. IF necessary an attendant will ask the people tp move. They have 3 levels so it shouldn't be a problem. We did address this with the disability manager. There is plenty of room in the MDR. It was open seating this time so there were no problems. If you don't like your seating have it changed when you get on board. Tell your t/a and they should be able to get you placed right, before you get on.We prefer assigned seating. It is a wondeful ship. The only thing that would make it better would be a Grand Promenade but it's not wide enough.

  • 3 weeks later...

just back from solstice yesterday and had handicap balcony cabin 7145. the door to the cabin opens automatically when the key card in inserted the same as the radiance class. plenty of room to manuver wheelchair. the MAJOR negative was the distance of the cabin to the aqua cafe and dining room. this cabin was too far forward.seems like it took all one strength to move over the carpeting through the long long long halls.

the theater..there were non designated seats, no signs, in the back row of deck4 some of which were partially obstructed by posts, pillars. so getting there very early was of necessitity to secure a clear line of sight

aqua cafe. there was no one to help with finding a table altho it was never difficult as there was plenty of seating and room for the wheelchair. there was no one to help carry plates to the table and ,believe it or not ,no one to get the morning coffee or juice.

the main parts of the ship had easy tile of some sort floors and the decks at the pool were not a problem.

there was carpeting the casino. the slot machine stools were not too heavy to move out of the way and unless it was busy were usually tucked into the machine area so there was room to get by.

the shops had small aisles but you could squeeze by.

there were no lips to go over between the inside area to the outside areas as access was easy.

public handicap bathroom also had the auto door via pushbutton.

all in all it was a pretty easy ship to navigate except for the location of the cabin.
