Bonnie J. Posted November 20, 2008 #2 Share Posted November 20, 2008 Just find a sunny, quiet out of the way deck with few people and take your top off. Or just lower tose straps........

I would not recommend that, some people might be offended. Many NCL ship have a freestyle sundeck where it ok to sunbath... whatever.

befit Posted November 20, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 20, 2008 I thought that the Carnival Inspiration had the "adults only" area where you were allowed to sunbathe as you wished. Did they change this? If so I will be so sad, because this is one reason why I chose this ship.:( I am going in December. Does anyone know for sure? Twice_a_year Posted November 20, 2008 #9 Share Posted November 20, 2008 You're welcome to completely nude on my balcony. (As long as my wife doesn't find out) Seriously, I have not seen any topless areas on my most recent cruises. And, believe me I've looked!
ThePatientOne Posted November 22, 2008 #10 Share Posted November 22, 2008 To the OP, From what I understand most have gone away from the more European style and have banned topless sun bathing.. And it is sad that the U.S. mentality is so hung up against toplessness.. Might I suggest a balcony stateroom, located high on the ship so as not to "offend" other passengers above you and just do as you please on said balcony.. I know if I were above you and happened to notice you on your balcony, I would not be "offended" in the least.. Heck I just might wave and give you a big thumbs up..:D Happy Cruising

Eeyoregon Posted November 22, 2008 #16 Share Posted November 22, 2008 RCCL, Celebrity and NCL all have adults only top deck sunning areas where clothing is optional. None on Disney and apparently Carnival did away with theirs.
pinkie1 Posted November 22, 2008 #17 Share Posted November 22, 2008 I don't know about topless, but when I was on the Emerald Princess for our Med cruise, I saw a guy with a thong. I was not ready to see that! Took me by surprise, thankfully he was the only one I saw. Sorry if I offended any guys who wears thongs out on public decks with kids around. Eeyoregon Posted November 22, 2008 #19 Share Posted November 22, 2008 RCCL does not have any topless areas. They got rid of them too?? beachchick Posted November 23, 2008 #22 Share Posted November 23, 2008 It may have been a trial on your cruise, but I have never seen a topless area on any RCCL ship that I've been on. We've not taken an RCI cruise in Europe or the Med, but I've heard that the little upper sundeck (San Tropez?) is designated for topless sunbathing on those itineraries. tbmrt: The NCL Jewel class ships (Jewel, Jade, Pearl, Gem) all have a small Freestyle Sundeck forward on Deck 14. There is a sign at the bottom of the stairs. I would also suggest checking the European-based lines too. It seems to me that they might be more likely to have at least one sundeck to accomodate what is a common practice in much of Europe. LuckyStar: It is absolutely your right to not want to sunbathe topless/nude, but that is your personal choice. For others and cultures where it is typical and common, I think it's nice to offer the option. For pity's sake, it's not like these sundecks are large, easily accessible (usually there are clear signs and a special stairway to climb), or required. And it's not as if nude pax are parading up and down the Promenade. If you don't care to go the small, secluded topless sundecks, then you don't have to do so (and no one should fault you for choosing not to). If others do choose to use them, they can do so without "bothering" those who prefer not to see toplessness or nudity. I don't know if you are saying that what you feel is modest means that the option shouldn't even exist for others, but there are people who have said that. The very idea that others might be somewhere onboard sunbathing au naturale offends their sensibilities to the point where they don't even want to be on a ship that "offers that kind of thing" (or words to that effect). That's mind boggling to me. It's like saying (this is a general "I" and not directed at you or anyone else specifically) "I don't believe in gambling, therefore, there should be no casinos" or "I don't believe people should drink alcohol, therefore, the ships should not offer it for others." Anyway, I think it's good when the cruise line offers options for various preferences. beachchick
ugen512 Posted November 23, 2008 #23 Share Posted November 23, 2008 I was on Carnival Victory in 2006 and they had a topless adults area below the tail stack. The only problem was if you were at the kids area infron of the ship, you had a clear view of the adults area. Not very good planning and I'm sure many parents complained. yellowbird23 Posted November 23, 2008 #24 Share Posted November 23, 2008 I just came back a few weeks ago on Spirit NCL and I did not see any topless or nude sunbathers, although if I had a mirror on my balcony I would have seen one. I just indiscreetly put my sofa cushions out there, laid my towel and robe within reach and listened for balcony doors next to me to open (which they did not the entire cruise). Didn't bother anyone and no one could see me from any location above. By the way, I also had my pack of smokes nearby and I am a 62 year old grannny. To each their own, but rules are rules. I didn't bother anyone and broke no rules.
