cc cruiser Posted November 7, 2004 #2 Share Posted November 7, 2004 Why no Cancun? I guess you just had an extra day at sea? I'll bring an extra book just in case! I'm wondering...maybe we should not plan an excursion by an independent tour guide. It seems they've missed Cancun a few times. We leave next Saturday, the 13th on the Sea. Thanks for the encouraging words!
wild4trvl Posted November 7, 2004 #3 Share Posted November 7, 2004 CC cruiser! We will be on the Sea then too! Haven't seen you over in the roll call thread. There are quite a few of us going! 6 DAYS! So glad to see positive reviews, but we'll have a great time no matter what! We planned a ship excursion in Cancun since it seems that they seem to miss that port the most.
more4les Posted November 7, 2004 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2004 We're going on the Sea on Sat. 11/13 too. We were just going to hit the beach in Cancun, so we'll have fun no matter what!
cc cruiser Posted November 7, 2004 #5 Share Posted November 7, 2004 You know, I haven't checked the roll call yet! I've been so busy exploring my excursion options, I just forgot. I'll do it now! Thanks for the reminder!
98Charlie Posted November 7, 2004 #6 Share Posted November 7, 2004 A great cruise ,good food, good fun, only bad thing no Cancun Happy to hear you had a good cruise - outside of missing Cancun. Was the missed port due to turbulent waves making tendering hazardous? DH and I were on the Sea in May and loved the ship. Would cruise on her again anytime. We found the staff and food to be very enjoyable and really enjoyed the layout of the ship as well. Dianne
Another ship trip Posted November 7, 2004 #7 Share Posted November 7, 2004 I'm on the Sea on 11/20 and almost everyone seems to say they don't stop in Cancun. Seems 3 out of 4 times they don't stop. What reason do they give, considering Cancun is only a short sail from Cozumel? If it was choppy in Cancun, I wonder why it never is in Cozumel? Junt wondering. 98Charlie Posted November 7, 2004 #8 Share Posted November 7, 2004 Although Cozumel and Cancun are in close proximity, the two ports are very different. At Cancun ships tender passengers to the dock while anchored at sea (think all ships do?); at Cozumel ships can dock. When seas are rough and tendering would put pax in harms way at Cancun, ships often opt for Plan B on an itenerary to protect passengers (and the cruise line) from possible problems. I believe I am right on this - former cruisers to those ports? Don't think cruise itenerary changes to Cancun are ``almost always.'' It's just the nature of the beast to transfer passengers to shore vs the waters available when ship arrives that makes the difference. Just seems like we hear more from passengers who did not make the Cancun port than those that did on these boards. Your cruise captain and officers will make the decision whether you visit Cancun or not on your voyage. Trust them. They have years of experience sailing the Gulf and know when to take you to that port or when to plan for an alternate day at that time. newmexicoNita Posted November 7, 2004 #9 Share Posted November 7, 2004 We too, will be on her next Saturday, I can hardly wait. As for Cancun, no plans from us to get off the ship unless it's just to do some quick last minute shopping. I am a little concerned about the weather out of Houston. We hate taking a bunch of warm clothes, but last time we sailed from there the weather was freezing that first night. We will do our tours in Roatan and Cozumel it looks like. I need to go to the roll call thread and see if anyone is planning any get together. See ya all Saturday!!! NMNIta
ColoradoLad Posted November 7, 2004 #10 Share Posted November 7, 2004 Hi! Just off the Sea Saturday: The reason is say three parts: 1. The swell, seas are such as the ship can not safely anchor as the depth is not enough to allow for the draft (keel depth) to avoid the bottom in heavy swells, although tendering would be safe 2. other times the waves or weather is to harsh for the tenders. 3. Cancun is getting both the Caribbean and Gulf and the bit of Aatlatic seas as it is at the top of the Yucatan The day at sea was not very exciting: nothing special! Be posting a series of "reviews" journals on the cruise and ports: from culinary reviews, to port issues and how much fun people had and why I think Roatan was the favorite for most, etc.. The cruise demographics was a majority of older, the usual Texans and nearby states and such. A lot of 1st timers, very few people who were not "fun" just a few drunks (Le Bristro one night had almost a walk out by a dozen), the casino seemed bent of holding on to eavy quarter it could  but hey: we had a great time! So watch for Milli's and my posts! ColoradoLad: home and have a lot of work to do and I am retired!
Another ship trip Posted November 7, 2004 #11 Share Posted November 7, 2004 Thanks for the info on the draft and such. Hadn't thought of that. I have been to Cozumel probably 8-10 times and Cancun only once. Maybe that's why not many ships call on Cancun anyway! I totally trust that the officers will do what is best. Looking forward to a great cruise. Less than 2 weeks now-Woo-hoo!
houtexme Posted November 8, 2004 #12 Share Posted November 8, 2004 On my 9/25 cruise, we stopped in Cancun. The water is absolutlely beautiful. We were able to tender in and went on the drift snorkel with Dive In through the ship. $39 for a three hour trip, snorkeling equipment provided. We snorkeled the reef off Isla Mujeres and it was wonderful. Hope you guys are able to make it to port. Best of luck to you all.
GTVCRUISER Posted November 8, 2004 Author #13 Share Posted November 8, 2004 My favorite stop on this cruise was Roatan,we took a Taxi to a beautiful beach. You can make good deals with the taxi drivers,we paid 20 dollars plus tip, round trip, and he waited on the beach until we wanted to go back to the ship. newmexicoNita Posted November 8, 2004 #14 Share Posted November 8, 2004 We too love Roatan; can't wait. I don't like to hear about the casinos, but haven't found a ship one yet that liked to share the nickels, quarters or whatever. Someone wrote recently the Sea had very loose slots, maybe he was just lucky!! Please let us know about Le Bistro. NMNIta
kitts2003 Posted November 10, 2004 #15 Share Posted November 10, 2004 they have missed cancun 3 out of the last 4 times. why not put cancun first that way if u miss it u can spend more time at other ports. also they had to mantain a higher speed due to rough seas which took us out of caribean water by day 7. which made it freezing. we also were in texas by 3:00 that morning. they also only offer a 12 dollar refund for missing cancun. i dont understand it they offered all u could drink rum punch for a hour and a half blackout in roatan but only 12 stinkin dollars dor a 8 hour port???? GTVCRUISER Posted November 10, 2004 Author #16 Share Posted November 10, 2004 If they miss Cancun they make a lot of money, for another day at sea,if they can not make that port that often why go there. Carnival tells you how many fun days at sea they have up front, and I say they are not so fun.

I don't particularly like too many sea days either, but a $12 refund is better than nothing. I just wish they could find someplace other than Cancun in the first place. It really isn't the best port in the world. if I had to miss Roatan I would not be very happy, but still cruising is a great experience. Another ship trip Posted November 10, 2004 #18 Share Posted November 10, 2004 I really don't care--I have been to all of those ports 3-7 times except for Cancun, but I did a land trip there and saw about all I wanted. The best thing I did there was go to Xcaret which is probably too long of a drive and trip to do on the ship. If it is offered, it is probably pretty expensive. I like sea days so I dont really care if we miss it anyway. Just No Cold!!!
houtexme Posted November 11, 2004 #19 Share Posted November 11, 2004 You may have just found your ship. I won $450.00 on just the nickels on the Sea. Be sure to "get rated" each time you begin to gamble. They rate your play just like in Vegas. Perhaps you and me will be contacted by NCL Gambing for either a free or discounted cruise. See the Casino Manager for the "magic card."

I should have a blast. Guess this will be the last entre until we return. We leave tomorrow afternoon:kids to the Pet Hotel, us to Albuquerque for dinner and the night near the airport then off on Friday. NMNita
