Martini of the Day

Hi everyone ! I was just wondering if anyone remembers or has the Martini of the Day for the Ruby Princess. Last year on the Crown they had a Martini of the Day then an option to buy the martini glass with it. They were like these V-ball shaped glasses in red, green, and blue I believe. :p

I do not have any specific data from the Ruby; however, the glass that you mention is a pretty common item on all the Princess ships that I have been on. We use a couple of the large Martini (Read double.) glasses like this that we bought w/drink every Saturday night before dinner. The same types are used in the dinning room for some of the special after dinner drinks offered as well.

I'm one that doesn't like most of the variations, offered I tend to like the traditional shaken not stirred Bombay Sapphire Gin Martini (Very dry.) with a twist of lemon rind. I did sort of like their 'Blue Eyes' Martini though. It was a fairly straight Gin or Vodka Martini with some Blue Curacao, added. I like it with the aforementioned gin.

We went to the Martini Demostration on the Royal Princess a few months back. Like G.Beret I prefer a gin base martini but I have to admit, I did enjoy their Raspberry one, made with Absolut Raspbery flavored vodka. I have a 2 page handout with all the different variations. One of these days I'll get around to making a couple of them !!!

I've been through most of the martini list at Crooner's, and I have to say that being a vodka guy, I always go back to my old standby, the 007. You can't improve on a classic...something I'm sure my gin-admiring friends will also agree upon with their version.

You can find the V-ball glasses on the internet for less than $1 apiece if you look around. The fancier ones are a bit more expensive but available.

Thanks Rob.;)

Don't mess with something that isn't broke.

From one of your Sapphire admiring friends.

If I'm not mistaken, they weren't doing the special glass thing on the Crown in October. Someone else @ Crooner's was asking, so I was just half paying attention, but I think I heard the bartender say that the glasses were currently just there for show. They weren't available to have your drink served in them. Don't know if that will change when I go back in January or not.

I was actually picked from the audience to do the Martini Demo and I made a Passion Fruit Martini which I was given to drink at the end of the demo, along with a Chocolate Martini. It was a lot of fun and my DH took lots of pics. This was on the Crown Princess this past January. I'll be sure to look out for the Mixology class.

They were available a few weeks ago on CB.

As a side note, look for the martini demo in the Patter. It's a lot of fun. And if you see a Mixology class offered in the Scholarship@Sea listing, go for it. The final exam is a bit tough, though - you have to drink what you make. I scored 100%. :D

Rob, you're an inspiration to us all. I'll be sure to post your story in my office to inspire my students as finals approach. . .

"Chairman of the Board" martini for me! (Grey Goose and Bombay Sapphire) :p

Hmmm .... I have never heard of combining both Gin & Vodka in one Martini, nor does a Google search turn up such a recipe.

Are you talking about one or the other in a regular classic martini!

Am I missing something good?? ;)
