Wife wakes me to come look at this ship right alongside us.

It was only just 6 a.m.

A few minutes later the balcony scene was getting golden..

As we got into the Charlotte Amalie harbour inlet

we got a glimpse of the Princess that had passed us earlier

-she was ahead of us..almost docked already

We docked here...

This was the view from our balcony looking out over the bay..

We took a 2.5 hr. tour, (U.S.$25 per person)

in something a bit like this..

St_ThomJitney-134.jpg

..which,

although interesting, was not particularly thrilling

and disappointing photographically, except for....

St_Thomas-148.jpg

and

St_Thomas-140.jpg

but then I've lived on Barbados for quite awhile

so my point-of-view may be difrnt to yours, sorry.

(You'll see later..)

Dominica is not like other Caribbean islands

Beach? not Dominica.

Think rainforest tours and waterfalls instead.

Your first view of Dominica, as you stand on deck

is likely to be like this

Roseau the capital hasn't changed much in fifty years..

What time did the pools, hot tubs and slide close?
Only thing I can help U with is waterslide times...

I asked the guy on station said they open at noon

and it runs until 6(I think he said)

either 5 or 6 but I think he said 6.

Other than that, I'm not the pool/hot tub type, sorry

...maybe someone else will come to your rescue

Thank you!!! I have been waiting for someone to post pics of a balcony room.

We are in 6298 (our first balcony) in February. Great pics and great review!!

As mentioned before, we were in 6431, which was fairly far aft - you'll be about amidships.

See the Victory deck plans at URL..

http://www.carnival4me.com/carnival-victory-deck-plans-cabins.htm

wait for the little ship diagram to load and then click on "Upper" Deck 6

http://www.carnival4me.com/carnival-victory-upper-deck.htm

and see where you'll be..on the Port(left side)

we were on the other side.

Now I can picture Lido, diningroom, the balcony room and that awesome waterslide (pretty good for a ship).
That awesome waterslide, to hear Douglas Ward tell it
(Berlitz Complete Guide to Cruising and Cruise Ships -2008)
is the longest waterslide at sea, all 200 ft. of it.

Personally I found it a bit too long
with that tight more-than-360-degree turn at the very end..unpleasant
but I'm no waterslide expert.

I saw people going again and again,
so I'm thinking it must be me, and the onset of old age :D
I still don't know how to do the pictures.
I do have them with me if someone would like to give me instructions.
There are two ways.

1 is to scroll a little further down the submission page (where you compose your post or response...)
you'll see a MANAGE ATTACHMENTS button to click on
that'll open a mini-window wherein you can browse thru your computer's directory, to your photo file
locate the pic you want to add in, click to upload it
wait for confirmation that it reached CC's computers and is now part of the message
and then U close the window.
When you post/Submit Reply, your chosen pic should then show immediately beneath the text of your post/response.
It'll show even after you do a Preview Post - so try that first, to see if you're doing it right.

2. If you have a stash of pics already posted on the interent somewhere
(on the CC Photo Gallery, like I do) or at Photobucket..?
some of those sites provide a code thing that you can copy
so that when you paste it in to your normal post/response
it shows as The Picture.

.........................

There's a whole thread devoted to this problem
over on the Photo Gallery's discussion board at URL..
http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=610576
so go there are have a read...you'll start to get the hang of it
(it takes awhile and a few screw-ups before you get either methodology figured.
Be patient with yourself -- Rome was not built in a day!) :)

Thanks so much Alpmac. You rock. I think I actually read a few of your posts on the Barbados board before this cruise.

Can I back up for a minute. We did nothing much in St. Thomas. If you are looking for a stay on the ship day this would be my choice. We had been here twice before and you can go on almost any itinerary. We have been twice on the western. We had originally planned to take a tour with Bruce Flamon. We actually found him at the taxi stand and he told us to go downtown and he would meet us in from of the black coral store at noon. Noon came and another guy showed up and asid that Bruce had something to do and he sent him for us. My husband and I decided to skip it. We had taken the tour before and the only reason we were going to do it again was because we enjoyed the driver. We ended up getting roped into a presentation for some kind of vacation program (this was my husbands idea). After the presentation we decided to walk back so we could stop at Kmart. Couldn't be that far right. We passed it on the way to downtown and the drive was quick right... WRONG! My DH is so patient. He never complained but I could see that he was not happy. We did make it to Kmart and got ciggaretts for my mom. I though I had read on here that they were cheaper there than on the ship but they were a few dollars more at Kmart. After all of that walking to get there, I better not have left without the ciggaretts. My husband would have killed me. From there we walked back to the ship. I will not make this mistake ever again.

Today some of the folks traveling with us decided to head out with us. The whole time leading up to the cruise I was trying to get everyone to pre-book stuff with us but no one wanted to confirm so we went ahead and booked River Tubing with Antours without them. Of course that morning everyone wanted to go. We got off of the ship and met with their representative. I cant remember his name, bu they were in luck, they had room. Just a few notes. The bank machine at the bank across from the port dispenses EC's. They exchange was about 2 to 1 if I remember correctly. It was raining cats, dogs, mice, chickens, I mean it was raining non stop I thought this was going to get cancelled. We went to the bus our driver was Sampson and our guides name was Germaine. If you get carsick this is not the place for you. There were a lot of windy roads with sudden drop offs. I did a lot of praying today. The tubing came with a tur of the island, a trip to the Emarald Pool and a stop at Mr. Nices fruit stand.

The Emarld Pool was beautiful. I can say no more. I will try to attache some photos and let them speak for themselves.
